Boxing Day “can I just go out there and do a 10k?” run

So I dutifully carb-loaded yesterday, despite my better judgement. Oh and I white wine loaded too. I planned to run a 5k today but I was feeling like pushing it a bit further as I’m parkrunning this weekend. Wasn’t sure what I’d end up running but I took my bumbag with water and some gels, so I think my subconscious intentions were something like this.

Speed? About 10 mins slower than my record, but today wasn’t about pace. It was a nice, leisurely, can I make it to the next km (bearing in mind I’d have to run it back as well).

Calf sleeves seem to be working well for me. I hate the look but if they keep me running without injury I’ll live with that.

I hope you all enjoy your next run, whatever it is x

Congratulations Jay on running that 10K on Boxing Day despite all the Xmas food you had yesterday, I went for a 17,000. step+12K. WALK this morning, after all the excess food I had yesterday I felt it was safer to walk than run, however, I did see 5 brave people running at around 35 minute 5K pace. 😊 🏃

Nice one - the carb (and wine) loading obviously did the trick!

My best runs have been with hangovers. No hangover today, unless you count the belly bulge.

Well done jay! I refer to your 10k AND your 6-pack alternative... the keg! 😸

Congrats Jay! I’m stoll in awe of the infamous 10k! I’ve just got a Garmin as a surprise (and the best received) gift - feel free to add me (I have no friends on there!)

I would if I had a clue how! I’m on Strava, which I recommend, Jason Good with a polar bear cub as an avatar.

Carb loading .. ha ha ha ha :D :D :D

I was relatively restrained yesterday, but with two days before my next run, my plan is to carb overload for the rest of the day, relatively guilt free :D

Relatively restrained? Your nearest and dearest got out the ropes and handcuffs??

This has been a problem throughout my life. (Saying what I think, not ropes and handcuffs!)

Well done Jay! 😊❤️

Have to admit I don’t really get the whole calf sleeve thing. I went straight from shorts in the heat to full length leggings/ compression tights now it’s cold. Not sure I’d want chilly knees...😟

Calf sleeves: cheapness, mainly.

Karrimor do pretty cheap running stuff if you want full length leggings. They might not be seen as a “trendy” brand these days, but the stuff itself is usually robust. My speedy husband owns one pair of Karrimor full length leggings and that’s it! He wore them all through the heat of the summer, when I was melting, and somehow manages to come back from runs without his kit stinking like mine does - so I really can’t comment!! 😂🤣😂

They would have to be compression tights though to do the job I need them to do.

It’s worth keeping an eye on the 2 sites below for compression deals. I’ve bought my 2XU women’s full length tights from both sites for £29 at different times.

I’m not sure the hype about how they aid performance/ recovery etc is really true though. Opinions are pretty split, and there’s not much real evidence around. The reason I like them was an accidental discovery. I sweat a lot, and find these tighter fitting tights seem to shift sweat away from my legs and let it evaporate away faster, so my legs aren’t wet and freezing cold as soon as I stop. (I’ve yet to find an answer as effective for my top half!)
