Up until this morning I have done all my running wearing fairly thick jogging bottoms. I was in TKMAXX yesterday and spotted some Nike breathable shorts for a bargain price of £14.99 so thought I would give them a go. Wow is all I can say! The difference in comfort. The running wasn’t any easier but running without the discomfort of sweaty joggers clinging to my legs, it was a really enjoyable run. So much so I ended up running a bit further than I intended!

Well done! Yes, different clothing can make all the difference. And what a bargain. That’s a great run 🏃‍♂️. 😊😊😊

Brilliant distance at a great pace. I can’t imagine the discomfort you must have been in with joggers. I run in shorts 12 months a year through snow, ice, rain. Enjoy the new found freedom. Happy running 🤗

Nice run to start the day and must have felt so much better in light shorts 😁👍

I haven't run in cotton joggers since the early days of me doing C25K this time last year. I was hopelessly overdressed but feeling very self-conscious.

I moved from that to running in a polo shirt (still cotton) and jungle shorts (also cotton mix). Finally, I went to fully synthetic fabrics, similar to what I wear when running nowadays. Technical (synthetic) fabrics tend to feel much less uncomfortable than cotton when you've sweated into them.

In winter, depending on the temperature, I tend to go for longer sleeved tops and extra layers. The legs are the last things to be covered. If a bit chilly I'll wear longer socks. If it's below 6°C I'll add leggings. Around or below freezing, running trousers instead.

That was my problem. Very self-conscious! At one point I was even wearing a jacket too. But after my run today I’m going back to buy the tshirt. I wore a cotton tshirt today and they always stick to my skin after a while. I find myself concentrating on those little annoyances more than I do on my run. It was so nice to be able to run without thinking about my sweaty joggers 😂😂

Not thinking about winter clothes just yet. I stopped running in October last year and only started again in March so yet to experience the colder morning runs!

I noticed that you’re entering the Manchester 10k, when is it? Really tempted to give it a go!

It's in two weeks' time, on Sunday July 4th. A group of us from work entered as a team. Some are having second thoughts about it now. 🤣

It's a bit odd, though, that they still haven't finalised the route.

I think that’s probably a bit too soon for me. I need to get a few more 10ks under my belt first. Good luck though! I’m sure you’ll smash it!

You’d definitely think that they would have finalised the route by now. It’s Heaton Park, surely there can’t be that many route choices??

No idea! I do know that there's a 5km parkrun route round there. There are two obvious possible start points: the hall itself or near the cafe by the lake. Both have car parks nearby.

I believe the previous events of this type had been around Eastlands, according to some of the boilerplate text they reused.
