Happy Saturday. It is (not)parkrun day again. It is a beautiful calm day here with an over cast sky which I hope will turn blue at some stage today. I am looking forward to going out for a 5K later. Just going to do some gardening first. For the first time ever we had a pair of Blue Tits nest in our nesting box this year. They have fledged which is fantastic. It has given me a project idea. So I am going to build a few nesting boxes later so as to hopefully give a home to some other broods next spring. I have made one already for great Tits. I'm going to make one for Robins and a new one for Blue Tits. It was so lovely seeing the parents flying in and out for the past few weeks.
For anyone new to this and wondering what this post is all about let me explain. A group of us from here run a 5K and then we pop back to this post afterwards and let everyone know how we got on. It is just a bit of fun, you can walk, jog or run. It is not a race, just a run and you can do it anyway you want.
Enjoy your runs everyone and I hope the weather is lovely where you are too. Happy running.

I love the birds in my garden and have a wonderful bird feeding station set up in the branches of a shady tree. They have 5 different feeders, all with different treats, and a bird bath. ❤️ Hope yours enjoy their new homes Damien. 🥰
My (not) PR was a mishmash of NRC Fartlek and slow jogging today. I’m conserving some energy for tomorrow’s baking Cheltenham 10k. I enjoyed it though. Did the 17 minute fartlek session with cheery Coach Bennett, which took me to 2.5k, and literally slow jogged the rest. Time for my 5k was 37:08. Second to last (not) PR, and much as I love my common, I can’t wait to get back to the real thing on the 26th. 🥰
Good luck CC on your Cheltenham 10K tomorrow, I notice that the 10K is at 8.30, so it shouldn't be too hot for you but still warm, drink plenty of water before you run. 🏃🏾 👍
Thanks so much Al. 😀 The 10k actually starts at 10:50. 😳 Still it’ll “only” be about 21 degrees then, warming up to 28 in Cheltenham in the afternoon. 🥵🥵🥵
Sorry CC, I was looking at another Cheltenham 10K in September which starts at 8.30am, running with the temperature in the 70's will be hot to say the least, good luck.
Happy day to you Damien, it's nice to see the birds in your garden. On Friday morning I ran my 52nd (not) parkrun in a time of 35.03. those 3 seconds annoy me, I was hoping to run it in 35 minutes, nevermind, it's not the end of the world for me regarding 3 seconds, I ran it along a disused railway line that I have walked 'hundreds of times' so I thought on Friday instead of my usual route I would try and run on the disused line, it was a good run except for those 3 seconds
This morning I had a walk around my home parkrun course and a few runners recognised me and hope the official parkruns will start soon, they will probably resume in the UK in July or early August, maybe sooner, have a great run after your gardening work.
Morning Damien and everyone! I had a very exciting (not) parkrun this morning as I am in Stratford in advance of our Cheltenham 10k tomorrow so I got to run with TailChaser and Katnap . My first non solo run (apart from a couple of runs with my son during lockdown, which didn’t really count 😂) since I did the virtual Vitality with them last October. Tailchaser was trying to pace me for a sub 30 but I got slightly defeated by the hill they made me run up so a time of 31.10. Thanks guys, it was great (and the coffee and pain au raisin in the Pantry as good as ever!)
We have had blue tits nesting in our box, but this year it is extremely busy with bees. Also in the two insect boxes.
The photo is from the campsite last month. I saw a blue tit fly out from it, reported it to the site managers and they put up the notice. I am not tall enough to look inside but they told me that there were tiny chicks inside.
Regarding today's run, fairly slow Jeffing 4:45, but followed by a mini-mega breakfast in the sunshine at the golf club.
How lovely Damien. We had a brood in our box last year. Nothing this year but I think we cleaned it out and put it back out too late. Enjoy your run 👍
It was wonderful to be able to share our run with Sandie1961 today. Like a hint of what is to come, but with a hill 😁 This is hopefully the penultimate Saturday morning (not)parkrun. I’ll still run this route occasionally though as that hill has been good for me.
I tried to go at just about sub 30 pace (I’ve never paced anyone in my life!) but by the 3rd k it was obvious that Sandie was happy to just complete it rather than sub 30 it so I plodded on a little bit faster. Didn’t want to thrash it too much because of Cheltenham tomorrow. Unfortunately I may have worn myself out anyway spending over 2 hours walking for our litter picking group this afternoon! Anyway, 29:22 this week, which is probably fast enough in this weather.
Tomorrow’s run is going to be…interesting weather wise…but it will also be so good to be with everyone again 😃
No strict 5km this week, but a 6.2km intervals run on Thursday morning which resulted in a PB 5k of 28'40" and a hilly 10km yesterday morning which was another PB at 59'43". Both were totally unexpected.
The glass in the shed at home has a hole in it (something I need to fix). A small bird got in through it and built a nest just over where I keep the lawnmower. The first time I spotted the next and the eggs, and the bird flew out. I didn't touch anything and was quick in and out. The next time I got the lawnmower out a few weeks later, there were several silent hatchlings in the nest. The following time, the nest was empty.
Did two 5k in the week?. Both over 45 minute but getting back to bfitnsss. Binge watched "Smother" last might so went to bed late. It was too hot by the time I got up so it will have to be strength exercises after the football today. I will miss 26th June reopening as I need to collect my son from Uni. Roll on July.
Well done. You won’t miss the 26th of June reopening after all. It’s pushed back another month. My mojo is coming back. Just in from a run and ran also on Monday evening.
Half hoped to run a 5k on Friday, but things conspired against me…so a Sunday run it was.
Decided on a canal run, giving flexibility on length. Like CC, I started with CB and a NRC fartlek which took me past 2k, so I continued jogging to 3k, and then turned back to make a 6k run. Time was 50:50.
Splits: 8:38, 7:54, 8:08, 8:20, 8:30…which added up to 41:30 for my (not) Park Run…my 4th fastest. The final km was 9:06.
Happy with that, especially as legs felt good the next day.
Very well done. Great running. I was belated too on my run. I didn’t run until Monday evening. Just back in the door from another run now. My mojo is coming back.
