Hi everyone, What a milestone today! I set off this morning at 6.30 to avoid running when it gets too warm. I made a really conscious effort to run slowly and pace myself. Jogging steadily along, 4K in and I felt great. Along my usual route there is a dirt path that I have always wondered where it led to, so I thought today why not.
It turned out to be quite the adventure taking me off the main roads and away from the traffic. It was the most gorgeous trail taking me through hedgerows and a little woodland area. What an adventure this was turning out to be. I turned round at 9k and had 2 jelly babies which had got a bit squishy and warm in my pocket. I used the pocket for my survival kit rather than my phone π. Another two at 11k, 13k and 15k. The last km no matter the distance always seems the hardest as you know you are nearing the end.
Anyway Iβm proper chuffed 10 miles in 2:04:31, pace 7:47, average HR 148. But best of all 1042 calories, so cake and latte it is π
Thanks to nowster, Mrrun and Tash99 for the the great advice they gave me.
I donβt often post so apologies for the long post .
Happy running to everyone π

Brilliant 10mile run. I too used to take jelly babies for emergencies, maybe not quite as many as that π. Slow and sure is definitely the way to go when tackling a new distance. It sounds like you found a great new route too. If youβre interested in a 10mile badge look out for the link on the marathon forum. Happy running π€
Thanks so much. Yes it was lovely away from the traffic. For some silly really I enjoyed more not only because it was pretty and quiet but because I was out of sight where people could see me running. Iβm not sure if that makes sense but I felt less pressure.
Also reading your post the other day when you achieved your 10 miles, motivated me on. I think shorter runs for a while now.
Double shot latte and cake was lovely this morning, but a nice glass of chardonnay is there to celebrate with tonight π₯π
Yes a few shorter runs is a good Idea, I've only ran two 5Ks this week, might go for a 10K on Saturday morning, if I'm brave enough all being well ide like to go for the HM at the end of the month π
I'm lucky to have some good trail runs to choose from..and the one I do my longer runs is very quiet.. I had oral cancer few years back and had to have my teeth removed and cant have implants or dentures (yet) π so whenever I'm out I wear my face covering, so getting a quiet route is great for me I can run free ππ
So sorry that you were unwell. Hopefully it wonβt be too much longer before they can sort you out. I canβt imagine having to run in this heat with a face covering on. Poor you. You must be so glad you have a choice of routes.
Feeling greatππ» My calfβs are aching a bit though, but I suppose itβs to be expected.
Well done on your 10 mile run ππ»ππ»ππ»Iβm working towards it although itβs a long way off but Jelly Babies make it all worth while ππ
Hahaha yes they do, especially the green ones π You will get to your 10 miles and I will look forward to seeing your post. Good luck and happy running π
Thanks Peter, I am thrilled. I didnβt think I would achieve the C25K and I did, and never did I think 10 miles possible! Yet here we are. The possibilities are endless π€
Thanks Frenc πI do feel wonderful π it was so lovely to find that new track away from traffic, and on to softer ground instead of the tarmac pavements
Sounds like a nice run in that new scenery! I myself sometimes take some powergel shots for a long run (my long runs are around the 60 minutes at the moment). Powergel shots carry the equivalent of 1/5th of a regular powergel-gel. I cut a 1 shot in 4 parts to be able to nibble them more easily than them being whole. I do wonder though if I should not skip over to jelly babies. It sounds easier than my sticky shots (they have a liquid middle, so cutting them in 4 parts make the liquid inside come out).
I would definitely swap because they do sound a bit messy. Iβm doing short runs for a while now until I get a plan together to do a HM.... where I will definitely take my new jelly baby buddies π
Great achievement Dups, really well done, Iβve completed two 10 mile runs and theyβre tough. Your time is great, you should be really proud of that my two were 2:00:41 and 2:08:32. Who knows what time I could achieve fuelled by 2 jelly babies though π€ π
