Having completed LEJOG04 a couple of weeks ago I immediately started the Welsh Coastal Path and then ran the Vitality 10k last week, so with a sense of freedom and exploration I set off this morning to run a 10k route I’d walked before back in January, in cold wintery conditions, I also know that it often has very muddy conditions too.
So on this beautiful morning with plenty of water💦 for the ever increasing early morning temperatures I did my warm up 5minute walk to a disused local railway line called the Salt Line and then on to the Trent and Mersey canal so reasonably flat route at this point, I am calling this part of the route the loop line. 🛤 CBDB runs part of this route, but she wasn’t out playing this morning🤣🤣
I’m looking to join this route up with my normal 10k as part of a plan for a new half marathon route and with a little tweak it can be done - just need to get my training plan into action now as my strengthening 10mile Friday runs haven’t been seen for 3 weeks🤭
Earlier this week I completed 50 miles on the WCP and the postcard duly arrived, I’m still trying to find a WCP map that I like to go up on the wall as I really enjoyed following the route and building up the postcards along the way on LEJOG04, so when I logged the run this morning I found my self at Barry Island, no Nessa, Gavin or Stacy to be seen either, there was though a glorious Welsh Coastal path view - wonderful.
Great to run a new route and have a whole host of new running distances and opportunities.
Happy running everyone 🏃🏻♀️

Brilliant effort, new routes are the best, and really essential when trying to increase your distances. The best of luck in moving up to half marathon distance. Happy running 🤗
Ooohh hello 👋 👋👋👋👋 great route!!! I know half of it, but not the other half. I still have yet to experience the canal. Time will come. I’ll be intrigued to see how you extend it.
Here’s a pic of a 20k route someone in my area mapped out (and I retraced) but I am not quite ready to run yet. But would love to hear how it runs! Especially the parts beyond the M6.
Hi CBDB unfortunately I cannot see your picture. I thought of you as I ran down the route to The Salt line It’s all very flat just the locks to climb which aren’t to arduous to come back into Rode Heath. Going forward I will put my route in from Church Lawton along the canal to Scholar Green and down into Rode Heath and the Salt Line and then ultimately to Hooze Hollow and home reversing today’s route at 20k and then if I go to Harecastle Tunnel prior to that it will give me the 21.2k !
I will need extra bits for the Metric HM 😲🤣🤣
Need to build a bit of strength in the short term!
Ahhh, if you’re on the app, then you don’t see the pics (grrr). I tend to log on via a browser on my iPhone to see needed pics.
But if you message me directly With an email address I can send it over via email, if you want.
Basically it extends your route by going all the way to Malkins Bank via small roads, returning on the canal until you come off where my field is, over the fields to Kidsgrove (old butt lane), then to Linley Road, passing on to Merelake Way.
I sought that out as it has three favourites included, two former rail lines (salt line, merelake way) and one canal tridle path.
On my map looks great. Strava heat maps also look promising. Canal I haven’t done yet but from your accounts they sound great.
That leaves the only untrodden passage the one from M6 underpass to Malkins bank.
So so tempting but I’m nowhere near the distance to attempt it.
I’ve now picked up the photo - great to see the map, I was aware of some of this route, where I joined the route at the motorway I turned right back to Rode Heath I just need to turn left - I have seen people walking here and hubby and I have mentioned it so I may give it a go for a walk to check it out many thanks 😊
Phew! You have sure been busy clocking up the kms. I nearly keeled over reading this (and I’d just read nowster’s report). Impressive or what? Inspiring, even [bites own fist with nervous look]
