I’ve recently been reading the posts put on by you lovely lot who’ve completed their Vitality 10,000 and I must say there’s been some great times and impressive performances. As usual I left mine to the last minute, Sunday being the deadline within which to complete it. Perfect running weather early morning not too hot, haven’t run for a fortnight or so, so decided on a nice flat straight route, as I anticipated it was going to be tough.
Felt a bit apprehensive beforehand, but as always I remembered CB saying that it’s important to relax, tension uses energy. I started off OK nice steady pace breathing felt good didn’t feel sluggish or tired and soon settled into the run. Reached a place called Abercarn where I saw a lady jogger with a face slightly redder than mine running towards me who gave me a big beaming smile and said ‘bit of a slog isn’t it’ to which I smiled and agreed. Always gives me a boost when I see a friendly jogger rather than a self absorbed gazelle.
I felt encouraged having completed the first 5k as I still felt reasonably ok, having reached 6k I turned and began to head back the way I’d came, it felt psychologically better heading back, and after a reasonable time I’d reached 8k. 9 and 10k though felt tough, but I got through those by telling myself I’d just set out on a short 2k run, which was going to be easy and fixed that thought in my mind. What a mental and physical challenge running is 🤔
9k done, 1k left, come on you can do this, then eventually I was done😁🎊🍾 Time 1:18:42, which was ok.
I felt so pleased and reassured that I could still complete 10k, sounds mad, it’s the fragile ego of the runner again, but I still need reassurance if I haven’t run for a while.
On my walk back I saw a funky looking metal bench which I took full advantage of to sit and catch my breath.
Result posted to the Vitality website, bling 🏅and tee shirt 👕 to look forward to sometime in the future ✅
Can’t beat a bit of running bling. When I finished and saw my time I honestly thought of you, I thought Ian did it in 1:18 something, wonder if I beat him....I didn’t 😬😂👍
Sorry I’ve only just read your post, well done you for getting out there and doing it, 10k is quite a distance and it’s a huge achievement just being able to complete it. Nice glass of cold water at the end of yours waiting for you, I must say I’d much prefer a cold beer 🍺. Lovely medal and tee shirt on the way to you 👕🏅🍾
Well done on your VV10k Couchphoenix ! 🙂👏👏 Funny, I always let the doubting gremlins in too, if I haven’t run for a while! Must have more faith in ourselves!👍🙂
I know ! It’s crazy isn’t it, I think those doubting gremlins are part and package of running. You’re right, I agree, we must have more faith in ourselves in future 👍😁
Congratulations on completing the London Vitality Virtual 10,000 on Sunday, as you probably know I ran it twice because my app failed the first time last Wednesday, however, after the second run on Saturday morning there were no further problems.
I did read your post Al, I felt sorry for you, I believe you put your number in the nearest bin in disgust, BUT you went out again and completed it a second time, which shows guts and determination, so good on you and very well done 👍 💪🏻🏅🏃♂️
Awww thanks Indielass00 not my fastest but at least I got it done, no jokes in this post......mind you not surprising as I haven’t been at all well, they X-rayed me and thought I had a hole in the heart, but it turned out to be a polo mint in my pyjama pocket 😉 x
Aww many Congratulations to you Coach 🏅🧸💙🏴🌟🏆🥓💥👏 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ that truly is such a brilliant achievement and time⏱🏁 So very proud of you 🏃♂️🧸🥰. Enjoy your medal☺️🏅🏆🌈🦄 your Star ⭐️ Pupil xxx 🧸💙🏴🌈🦄
Thank You my Star Pupil 🤩 I was so pleased to complete that one, it was a tough run in parts but definitely worth all the effort to earn this years extra special Vitality 10,000 bling 🏅🎊🍾 xxx
Well done CP! I love the mention of 'self-absorbed gazelles' - I would be the red-faced variety myself!! 😄😄 That was a good time for your 10k into the bargain. Happy days! 🍾🐌🏆🏅🎖🎊🤸♀️
Thank You Fionamags 😊 I much prefer the red faced variety too, my gazelle days are long passed, I think I actually blinked and missed them 😂. The 10k time was ok considering I haven’t run for a while, last years was about 11 mins faster as I achieved my 10k PB on that one, but I’m still really pleased with the run though 👍🏃♂️🏅🍾
Well done on your 10k, you made me laugh with the 'self absorbed gazzelles' totaly agree with you there 🤣 i've not done a 10k since 8th may 🤷♂️ seems a long time ago now, like you, might be a bit, can i still do it!Hope everything ok with sorting your mum's house, etc.
