Perceptions … it IS all in the mind

Yesterday I struggled with my Monday run it was hard work every footfall was heavy and I nearly packed in several times but when I got back I had managed to do my longest run to date, at a reasonable pace which astounded and pleased me no end.

Later in the day I had to pick up my partner from work and got talking about running ( I am NOT obsessed😂) his two work mates came out and shocked me with their perception of me with the phrase “ Yes but you are a runner aren’t you”.

It was such a shock.

It’s right when we say running is all in the mind.

Keep on trucking … Runners all.

Doesn’t it feel good when people think of us as runners? as if it’s something only very special people can do? and we are special but knowing the slow plod and puffing and panting that got us to this stage of being runners we know anyone could do it if they have that determination and inner strength to carry on. You are a runner, be proud

I've been wondering if it's carrying on running when they are difficult runs. That increases stamina, rather than the easy ones. Certainly it's a mind thing to keep carrying on, and my fear is that if I give up on a run, I'll do it every time it gets tough and I'm tired....

I think with a personality like mine, competitive, determined stubborn, addictive....... Etc......the challenge is to know WHEN to change the goal, so that it's a positive rather than a negative..... But I coukd be deluding myself!

As Larkin said “They **** you up, your mum and dad.

They may not mean to, but they do.

They fill you with the faults they had

And add some extra, just for you.

And we add even more I suspect … great to know a fellow traveller
