Bounce bounce bounce .... (new shoe post)

After Friday’s pedalistic shoe splash-out for the whole family, we finally got to run in our precious new wear.

Teenage son this morning, after wearing them indoors on weekend.

Husband still yet to donne his lovely reds.

Me? I broke them in on a short Saturday 3k, and this morning on a gorgeously sunny 5k. What can I say....?

.... bounce .... bounce .... bounce ... .... bounce .........

I can empathise. It took me a year. But it was great! I didn’t even have to run on the treadmill, as he came outside with me to test-run down the street. 😁

The bounce for me is all in my calves, etc. But then you all know I'm weird anyway. 🤪

🤣🤣 well at some point I might try your way of the freedom-to-all-toes route. Sadly my closest running shop does not carry them. (We did ask, actually, but not sure I am ready yet)

Where did you actually get your first pair and did you get them fitted?

I got my first pair by a back-and-forth with Amazon, making sure the shoes I ordered had free returns.

Yeah, we thought online might be the best bet unless you live in London. Some day I’ll give them a go....

Well done CBDB everyone loves new running shoes. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of getting out there to test them out!👍

Thank you! I will and am already enjoying. Getting a bounce even in this heat.

Nice shoes!

I am using shoes I bought like 5 to 6 years ago for running and which have been used for a few months and then got locked up in a closet for 5 years. With some info online, I calculated how much distance I can approximately do with them before I have to buy new ones and I now have about 150 km left on them, which is about 10 weeks if I don't go overboard with the distances. So I will soon have to go to a shop too, want to get my feet tested and such too. Will be the first time, my previous shoes have been bought on sight, haha.

I am actually relieved to hear that not everyone went out in week 5 of C25k and bought fitted shoes. I think it is probably the best thing you can do for your running, but just wasn’t possible for me with lockdowns and no local running shops.

So I ran with 15 year old tennis shoes that I hadn’t used for 10 years. (See pic 🤣 taken at the end of their lifetime. I know I know, the worst thing I could do was run in these, but that is not as bad as not running!)

I then moved to generic male (I’m female) Aldi running shoes which were actually great!

But I think all that was only possible because I sort of Japanese Slow Jog, rather than normal-speed run. E.g. my ultra slow shuffled run is not only easy on my feet, legs and knees, but also on my shoes.

So enjoy the experience of getting fitted! It’s worth the wait!
