Sorry I’m late getting this started today. I have some family visiting for a back garden BBQ and I’m busy all day preparing.
Best of luck everyone today and tomorrow with your 5K runs. Most of you are probably already long finished. Let us all know how your runs went. I’ll do mine tomorrow.

Hi Damien! I’m posting here for the first time in ages because I did a proper (not)parkrun today! It should have been parkrun reopening of course so the merry band of UpTheStanley, Dexy5, Mr and Mrs Coddfish and I decided we would don teeshirts and go for it. We were careful to avoid the 9am start as per parkrun’s guidance and aimed to meet at a favourite eatery at 11. By which time the temperature had hit 🥵! But there was a welcome gentle breeze on the way back and I plodded on. Coddfish wasn’t running today but I passed MrC, Dexy and UTS as they were heading out and I was heading home (having started much earlier!). I did my hip-helpful run/walk and managed a very slow 51:38 which is almost my slowest ever for 5km. But the hip is getting better all the time and I’m ever hopeful that I’ll be able to speed up soon! Oh, and breakfast was, as ever, very tasty as we looked out over the water! How lovely for you to be able to have family over again - enjoy your BBQ!
Congratulations to you OGR on running your first 5K for ages, that was very nice that after the run you were joined by "The Southsea Crew" at the eatery, hopefully your hip will soon be 100%better.
Thank you. Very well done on your run/walk today and great to hear that your hip is feeling better. Nice to be able to have breakfast out too. Outdoor dining starts back here today in Ireland. Hopefully you will all be properly back at parkrun again soon. Happy running.
Don't worry the least bit Damien about being a little late about (not) parkrun.
This week I ran 2/10Ks, yes TWO, what happened was on Wednesday morning I intended to run The London Vitality Virtual 10,000, which I did, but disaster struck at the end when my app failed to post my time, but I did remember the 5K split time of 35.50 which I posted as my 51st not parkrun.
This morning I ran that London Vitality Virtual 10,000 again without any problems whatsoever and posted Wednesday's time of 1.11.40 to Vitality as this morning's time was 1.13.58 using the 'change the duration' feature on Mapmyrun, I got a congratulations E mail from Vitality saying that I will get a medal and T Shirt by July 19th, enjoy your run tomorrow.
Well done on your 2 x 10ks Al. Tech failure is my nightmare scenario, especially when it actually matters (who am I kidding? All runs matter!) so good for you going out again, and we’ll done for remembering your 5k split for (not) PR! 🏃♂️😀
Me too. I rarely use Strava. But also rarely run a 10K that needs to have evidence. So to be safe I ran my Vitality 10K with Garmin and Strava. Interesting times 1:13:33 and 1:11:56 respectively, even though Strava measured 0.13km longer distance than Garmin.
The longer Strava distance is probably correct because I switched it on first then walked to the Start, where I pressed the button on my Garmin. But I took the Garmin time because it gives me a better chance of another pb if I run 10K again
Thanks CC, I ran the first one on Wednesday wearing my Bib No. which is/WAS 10368 (I know that because I wrote it in my running diary) but felt so disgusted at the end of the run despite a good time that I binned it at a nearby bin, a thing that I would have never done if the app had not failed, at least I know what my number was from that diary.
Very well done Alan on doing your 2 x 10K’s and nice times too. A double (not)parkrun. Great running. Pity about the tech failure. You’ll treasure the T-Shirt and medal all the more now.
It’s BBQ season Damien! I hope you have a great time. 🍗 🥩 🍔 🌭 🌽 🍻
I’m being so risky at the moment! Yet again I used the NRC app and counted my All Over the Pace intervals run with the lovely Coach Becs as my (not) PR this week.
Woohoo it was so much fun! I included the slow warmup jog and recoveries in my time, and came home in 35:33 which was 5 seconds quicker than my meh run last week, and 100% more enjoyable. I shall be doing more of the same next week and I’m already looking forward to it. 🏃♀️🎉
Very well done Cheeky. Great running and glad you enjoyed it. I was so busy on Saturday entertaining and we had great fun. But I did not have a moment. The next few weekends will be very quiet now. But after such a long lockdown it was lovely to see everyone again and the weather behaved itself.
Your run tomorrow may be a little slower than usual after a family BBQ eh Damien 😂😂 Worth it though! I had my 2nd jab on Wednesday and, although I felt fine after the first, it floored me when I went for a run, so I decided to steady off a bit today just in case. As it happens, it went really well, if a little on the warm side and I recorded 31.58. Next week I am hoping to get to do (not) parkrun with TailChaser Katnap and Shake-and-run as I am staying in Stratford on Friday, because we are off to the Cheltenham Running Festival on Sunday. Bibs, chips, medals. Whoop whoop 😃😃😃😃😃
Have fun guys! I’ll see you in Cheltenham on Sunday! Why does having a running event to look forward to turn us (well me anyway) into excited child-like beings? 😂
Oh Sandie. I was very bold. I was exhausted yesterday, and by the time everyone left we were invited over to a neighbours house. I was in bed at 10 last night. It was a Bank Holiday weekend here so we were out for the full day today too. So no running for me. But that’s it, nothing going on for the next few weeks so tomorrow I will be on the good ship lollipop again, healthy food and get back to 10K training.Well done on your run, I had my second jab last Wednesday too. Enjoy the Cheltenham Running Festival on Sunday, how exciting.
Hiya Damien! Busy, busy, busy! No worries, make the most of this lovely weather whilst you can 👍
We had an early one as we had a gas man coming to service our boiler and youngest kitten had a friend coming. Glad we did actually because by the time we finished it was already heating up. On the other hand, it was also still quite quiet and we managed to cross roads and pass through the petrol station corner without any problems as there were so few people and vehicles about. Stratford has been heaving with visitors this week as you can imagine. In any case, we need to start getting up earlier 'cos in 3 weeks time we'll be up volunteering and running at the actual real thing 🤞🤞🤞
So it felt hard work because we'd done a lot of running in the heat this week and I'd done some cheeky Strava segment local legend claw backs on Thursday in a double (not)parkrun 10k after work which was really hot and had a head wind most of the way. First 1k today was way too fast but we evened it out and then Katnap sped off for the last 1k. It still wasn't a bad time, though slower than last week: 27:18.
Happy running everyone and stay hydrated! 🏃♂️🏃♀️💪
I'm not that old. I just happen to appreciate the humour of the fifties and sixties. (eg. Goon Show, Round the Horne, F&S, Tom Lehrer, Cambridge Circus, ISIRTA)
I also remember "The Light Programme" Children's Favourite with Uncle Nax, Saturday Club, Music While you Work and who could not forget Mrs Dale's Diary.
When I was off school occasionally with a few short childhood illnesses I used to listen to the Light Programme or the Home Service with all those above programs, only two stations then, compare that now to the hundreds of radio stations we can listen to now.
Always been a Goon Show man thanks to Dad and Grandad but recently I've discovered a load of Hancock's Half Hour on BBC Sounds. I'd only heard The Radio Ham and The Blood Donor before. The missing Hancocks with Kevin Mcnally are a must too.
Great running again TC and nice 5K finish time. Oh how exciting, 3 weeks to go. I couldn’t bring myself to listen to parkrun podcasts since last summer. But I’m catching up on them now.
My second 10k today. Another not London run. I was intending to do 7.5k but felt fine after a very slow 5k. Over 49 minutes. The next split was even slower. But I proved to myself that the 10k last month was no fluke. Best of all, I am spending time seeing my mum for the first time since September. Next up my sister - well you can't have it all.... Bless her.
My post went AWOL. Long story short. My splits say it all!
Started too fast in 18c and getting hotter, overtaken by UpTheStanley , then came along mr @Coddfish while I was walking, so started running again and stayed with him for a while then walked again. Sprint finish. Breakfast for 5 at the Briny . Delicious.
Best thing was we met up with some runners from local running club/parkrun and they believe permission about to be signed off by the council. Hoorah.
Actually they’ve done their maths wrong as it works out at 72%, (pointed out by someone else on Twitter ) 😂😂. My concern is that London is not well covered , or the NE , so it could cause problems in those that are open. 🤞they are also close to saying yes.
Ok!! I’ve not looked in that much detail🤣 Close enough... There were a few more London’s last week and at least 2 Cambridgeshires, so it is getting there 🤞🤞🤞
If your weather is anything like ours, your BBQ should have gone well - it was already warm at 8.30 this morning so I took it a little easier and completed in 30.05. Since I was already hot and sweaty, decided it was the perfect time to mow the lawn, before showering and downing a bowl of fruit and yogurt.
Hi Damien, I’m hoping to do my run tomorrow. I had my second jab on Friday and felt fine initially but today I’ve been feeling quite groggy. Provided I have a decent night’s sleep all should be well I hope.
Hi Damien. I’m going to log my Friday evening fastest for 8 months 5k as my not PR this week. Got taken out for a posh lunch with wine and champagne but after sitting around once we got back had itchy running feet. Who’d have thought that 🍷 🥂 would fuel a fast run😂😂. Anyway back to earth with a bump this morning as went out for a long one and only managed 4k as toooooooo hot 🥵. Hope others fair better
Hi Damien. If you were late posting I'm even later reporting, and Oldgirlruns and Dexy5 have already had their say .... very rare for us to (not) parkrun on Saturdays, or run the parkrun course, and starting on Southsea prom at 1030 meant slalom running ⛷️🚶♀️👨🦯👩🦼👯♂️👯♂️👩🦯🏃♂️ was the order of the day for the first and last 1500m. But despite that and an excess of grape juice 🍷 on Friday evening, I was able to record 24'51" for the parkrun course (which was 5040m according to Mr Garmin yesterday) and 24'42" for 5k by the watch. So well pleased with that, after taking a week off from all forms of exercise - a rest is obviously as good as a change 😀.
Excellent running UTS, great finish time, especially when you factor in the Slalom running too. I was so busy on Saturday but we had a lovely time and my Mum and Dad stayed over. Just after they left we were invited over to a neighbours house for a little outdoor dining and a couple of drinks. I was exhausted and went to bed at 10 last night. It was a bank holiday weekend here and we were out for the full day today. I was bold, no running. But I’ll get back at it again tomorrow.
Hi all, I don’t normally post a (not) Parkrun but having done my VV10k a couple of days ago, I decided that for todays 5k I would take a run over on my local Parkrun course. The route is mainly on grass with a little dirt track and a hill (run twice) that is a bit of a slog to say the least!😩
Its a while since I have been over there and proper hills are a bit lacking from my running at the moments (although none of my routes are flat).
Anyway, despite Garmin telling me it was 19 degrees out, I ran a time of 32:36. Happy with that as I know I took it a bit steady today - and now have a time to improve on!🙂
I’ve actually only done a real Parkrun once, Damien and drove to another local one then because it was an easier course!!😔😬🤣 The one I ran yesterday is about a 6/7minute walk away (or even quicker warm-up jog) I really have no excuse, especially as my husband regularly runs and volunteers there! I am going to try and run it at least once a month once Parkrun returns…🤞🙂I also liked the easier course as you get a good turnout (300+) whereas the nearest usually has approx 70-80! Nowhere to hide!!!🤣🏃♀️. 🏃🏽. 🏃♀️🙂
I have a local one 5 mins away from me. I also try to do a different one further away once per month, some parkrun tourism. I’ve done over 20 different ones now. But I’ve found by doing one close to you regularly you start to know the people running there after a few weeks. And before you know it your part of a lovely community, make new friends and can’t walk through your local town without bumping into a parkrunner.
Thank you Lottie, the BBQ was great. Prepared too much food as always. It is so nice to be able to see and meet with family and friends again. Very well done on your run and great time. Lovely to be running around your local parkrun course.
Hi again Damien. I ended up abandoning my Sunday attempt after just over 1 km as I felt dreadful with my heart rate all over the place. On the upside I walked back via the London to Brighton classic car rally which was lovely. Today was another day entirely and a complete contrast to yesterday. I whizzed round and ended up running my second fastest 5k ever! I’m definitely over that jab now! 👍
I did a proper parkrun! I was invited to my local parkrun to test out the new route. It wasn't actually very different, so probably more just an excuse to have a run together. There were about 35 runners and the usual number of volunteers, and it was luvverly!
