Ankle Injury. I have completed the 5k and now would like to complete a 10k my ankle has been a little sore for weeks now where it’s not really bothered me running but has got worse. It’s still bearable to even run on but wondering what to do for the best?

Have not run since Monday. Hoping to go out tomorrow. The pain also goes into my calf sometimes to. Any ideas please?

You might need to rest for a week or three to let it heal

Strength work is important to help our bodies support our running. It takes time but it’s so worth it. Think about body weight exercises, weights, and yoga etc. 🙂👍

That sounds very much like an ankle sprain combined with a possible shin split. I had exactly that following my graduation run. It flared up to the point that I couldn't walk easily, and I needed two physio visits.

Rest it and do some calf stretches and ankle stability exercises.

Also you might need different shoes. Have you ever had a gait analysis?

If you have pain it’s probably best to rest rather than keep running. If it doesn’t clear, seek advise from a sports specialist. Just a couple of things to think about - how well do you stretch after your runs and how well fitted are your trainers? Happy running 🤗

Two things. You never ever run through pain. And second, you don't seek medical advice online from random blokes who aren't doctors (regardless how well-meaning we are). If the pain or discomfort doesn't go away after a week of two of non running, google the best physio close to you. That's the best money you can spend. As for ankle pain? Been there, done that (the hard way).

I'd say to see a physio. Hips , knees and ankles all need to work in correct alignment. They can assess where the root of the problem lies. ( Experience of this!)

Could be tendonitis? If it’s getting worse you should seek professional help. I have ongoing ankle problems and now use orthotics in my neutral shoes and in all my daily walkabout shoes. I have a pair of Nike Infinity React 2 which have great arch support so I don’t use the orthotic in those. After each run I always point the ice cold shower at my lower legs for about 3-5 minutes. Yesterday I stood in the sea for 5 minutes. 🥶 I find this really helps. 😅

HTH. Good luck.
