(Not) parkrun #49 along the shore of beautiful Ullswater

It was a gorgeous start to the day, so I decided to do my 49th (not) parkrun alongside my favourite Lake District lake on the last day of our holiday. I grew up in Penrith so this was my closest lake as a child and the scene of many a happy walk, cycle ride, paddle, teenage tryst!! It was relatively flat apart from the hill up past the Sharrow Bay Hotel. A very respectable 31.36 and I am now caught up ready for the official 50th (not) parkrun on Saturday back at home.

Congratulations on completing your 49th (not) parkrun, lovely photo of of The Lake District, you have had a great holiday, the weather hasn't been too bad in the North of the UK including Scotland, unlike Wales, The Midlands and South of England, you like me will be looking forward to your 50th (not) parkrun which for me at least is the LAST run of COGH.

The weather in Scotland was far better than we ever imagined. We watched the storms in England feeling rather smug 😂

I do love the Lake District Sandie and I recall Ullswater as the start of our walk along striding edge and up helvellyn with splendid views of the lake. You have got such lovely weather too. I’m glad to say ours was similar today, after all the wind rain and hail. What a great place for your run.

Safe journey home.

It is lovely. Even though I lived in Cumbria for nearly 35 years I never tire of the Lakes

Beautiful surroundings Sandie. It would have been rude not to enjoy them with a run. 🥰

See you in Cheltenham in a couple of weeks.

😀

Thank you! I had only previously reported Saturday 5ks on the parkrun site, so missed a few last year and was determined to get to 50 by tomorrow, which would have been the last one before the return of the real thing. Ah well 🥲

Glad I managed to find a relatively flat route too 😂

Yes, Flattish that far north is a bonus

Lincolnshire flat = 12m/5k, Cumbria flat = 65m/5k. Hmmm!

Not that flat then

The Lakes is my favourite place to be... I've never run there though!

We haven’t been here since I started running 3 years ago. I studied Strava routes very carefully for a fairly flat one though 😂

What a beautiful run! Brought back lovely memories of when we lived in the Lakes - near Cartmel. I didn't run at the time but walked, mountain biked & hacked out enjoying the scenery (and more often than not the rain!).

Ah yes, that’s Cumbria! All 4 seasons in one day, but that’s how they have lakes. We went to Aira Force on Wednesday and it was a raging torrent. Spectacular!

Joyful! And speedy! Need a slow, slow run to take in that glorious scenery. 😊🏞🏃‍♀️

Looks beautiful. You must have a lovely accent too? I went to uni in Lancaster with a girl from Penrith and we all loved her accent.

I left Penrith in 1990, but my bestie said she could tell I’d been back to mum and dad’s 😂Yet I spent my first 7 years in Leeds and still remember being teased about my Yorkshire accent!
