I havenβt posted for a while and if Iβm honest, I have struggled with my running mojo just recently. My anxiety (one of the reasons I run) has reared its ugly head a little lately and there have been days when I should have run but took the easy option....and didnβt! π So today, a week after my last run π¬, I gave myself a bit of a talking to and laced up my running shoes...and am so glad I did! Just out for a steady 6.5K but enough to remind me that running should never be the thing I miss when times are tough. I returned home after a great run, feeling so energised and immediately signed up for the Virtual Vitality 10000 to keep me motivated over the half term break (I work in a school, which I loveβ€οΈ but Iβm ready for my break!)
Hereβs to remembering...why we run!πββοΈπ

Well done getting out. Hold onto that feeling, better still, write it on a post it and put it somewhere prominent to remind you even when feeling yuck, running helps. Have a great mid term. Happy running π€
Well done for getting out there Sandra ππ Sounds like you definitely need the half term break (we love the job and the kids but it is exhausting!). I must admit that the gremlins got the better of me this morning and I ended up at the computer doing planning, instead of going for a run π
Hi Sandraj39 Iβm so glad you managed to get out there and enjoyed your run!πββοΈπI havenβt run for a couple of weeks now due to injury and really miss it π’ Happily Iβm on the mend though and going to Derbyshire on holiday today so Iβm hoping to get some walking (and maybe even runningπ€) in while Iβm there! It could be just the thing I need to get me out there againπ
Itβs great that your mojo gave you a talking too and you went out. Hopefully your half term will reenergise you. Anxiety is hideous so feel your pain there. π€
Nice to have you back Sandraj39 πYour run and post are both important steps in the right direction. Running is a major comfort zone for me; which is why I become a pain in the ass when I have a niggle( chorus of agreement in the background! ). At least we have lots of daylight at this time of year so it is easier to shoehorn a run into a busy schedule ( although I love a night time run in the woods too). Looking forward to your next outing!!π
Thanks Beachcomber66 - yes, running definitely makes me a calmer, happier person too!I am usually pretty good at sticking to my running routine - and of course these wonderful forums always help with motivation! π
Oh my goodness, well done on getting out there, it's a real irony that the thing that will make you feel better can be so hard to do sometimes!Oh and I used to teach, and YY to needing the half term break! I remember that feeling so well. Good luck with the Vitality ππͺ
Iβm glad you got those running shoes on Sandra and have booked the virtual vitality to give you an incentive. To be honest I think the return to βnormalityβ is causing a lot of stress after us being restricted for so long.
Good for you getting out there. I always maintain, it's ok to "miss" the runs we legitimately weren't able to do, e.g. through injury/illness or there just not being enough hours in the day sometimes, but we should never deliberately miss runs that we could do.
Running is pretty much my equivalent of "mindfulness" (depression rather than anxiety) so I completely get where you are coming from.
Aw, well done Sandraj39 ...itβs so easy to take the easy option and stay home...but running should never be far away for this exact reason...we all know that running can take us to our happy place...sometimes the run might involve tears, sometimes it might involve memories, sometimes it might involve smiles...whatever it involves itβs the best thing we can do, even though we donβt feel like it every time, but somehow always feel better for going...those mojos can easily slip through our fingers, I find that mine sometimes lurks on here, hiding in peoples posts and thatβs why I come for a read...and itβs posts like this that have my mojo back where it belongs...and Iβm glad yours is back too, you need to lock it up so it doesnβt escape again!!! Your post probably has hidden mojos all over it today that have been returned to their rightful owners π xxx
I can so associate with missing runs for reasons like this and am so glad you have reminded yourself why you run β€οΈ I am gradually learning the same, and that 'being kind to myself' by missing a run if I don't quite feel like it is often just the opposite, and just leaves me feeling worse. Hopefully we'll both remind ourselves to go out for a run - whatever! ππ·
Sorry to hear youβve been struggling Sandra, itβs still an unreal world out there and so many uncertainties. Weβre living though strange times so itβs little wonder our emotions are sometimes all over the place βΉοΈ
Good for you for signing up for the event, I hope thereβs bling involved somewhere! Iβm sure your much loved trails will do you wondersβ¦. If theyβre not too waterlogged atm!
Yes, definitely bling involved IP! Thanks for your thoughts. Yesterdayβs run was not on the trails ... but I imagine they are wonderfully wet at the moment!β€οΈπ¦ππ½ββοΈπ¦π
