Tell me I’d look forward to a 10km trail run in Jan and I’d have laughed in your face - I love a 10km trail run now 🤪

That was a long heading !!!!

Joined here 6 months ago and really enjoy reading posts that I could so easily have written. I began running because I came off my motorcross bike and broke my shoulder, as you do. I’ve had to sell the bike as shoulder is not going to be a quick fix but my legs are good for running it turns out.

Did my first 10km trail run in April and immediately signed up for more ! I’m hooked. I like 10km for me it’s doable. I’m trying to improve my sub 60 as a goal now.

Love all the tips and tricks and I’ve learned one valuable lesson, it’s definitely mind over matter for me. Age of course creeps in as I turn 60 in a few months I’m celebrating I can run and thank my body on a regular basis.

I run 3 times a week and mix them up and do stretching exercises everyday and running strengthening on rest days and foam roll to keep the aches at bay. Basically listening to my body is number one tip for me and when I crave salt I eat crisps because I can.

Enjoy your weekend wherever you are at and that moment out on a run when you say “ I’m loving this”

You go with what’s right for you. I reached 10miles about a year after starting c25k by just occasionally increasing a long run. But then I don’t run for speed, my comfy 10k time is about 1hr 10 or 15 so 10 miles is about 2hrs for me.

It is just so brilliant to be able to run and enjoy it and times are a goal but nothing more for me.Love the title Grannyhugs btw.

Aw thanks. When I joined the forum my daughter was newly pregnant so I was grannytobe then when baby came along I changed it after much debate, just weeks before we went into lockdown 1 so it’s been the best name ever being able to share hugs with everyone on here through all the restrictions 🤗

Congratulations! First in your age group too!🏅👏👏💪 I have to agree - I think 10 k is still my favourite distance! 🙂

Thank you 😊 I think it takes me the first 5km to warm up and get into my pace. I don’t want to go over as I have lots of ailments and I know it suits my style. I didn’t know it would be split into groups and love there is a plus 50 group and was made up which has spurred me on for the next 10km trail event.

With you on this one. Ran my first 10k in August 2019. This time last year it was typically the distance of my long run of the three runs I would do each week. Now, it's effectively my "go to" starting distance and I have to go back to January for the last time I ran less.

You are right though, listening to our bodies is key, although peanuts are my salty snack of choice.

Great result and well done. It just shows what we can do when we decide to set ourselves to it.

I see how additive this is becoming and how 10km is one of your 3 runs a week.Peanuts are my downfall once I start I can’t stop !!!

Definitely telling my mind who is boss, did a long slow run of 11km today and kept my heart rate out of the red zone.

Blooming heck! A sub hour 10km trail run. That's amazing. I ran 10km today. Nowhere near as fast as that, and not on trails. I like that distance, too.

Thank you, was aiming for a sub 60 and the end was across a field so I used the last in my legs to get across the finish line. Such an awesome feeling. I see a little tag beside your name Graduate10 can I apply

For this now ???

I'm sure you can apply. There's a pinned post where you ask.

Today was my third 10km run. I've done longer runs since my first 10km: reaching a longest run of 18km last month.

For longer runs you will need something to keep your energy levels up. I use jelly babies. Also for runs over 90 minutes, hydration on the hoof may be needed. I don't need either for a 10km run.

Well done. I’m keeping to 10km as it’s comfortable for everything and noting extra needed on board ! I’d ran past 10km yesterday to shock the body but I won’t go much further - yet !!!!

Thank you, I’ll try and find a pinned posted ? Also all new to me.

Keep up the good work very encouraging.
