Am new here and my first post yesterday was a dose of misery. And people replied - with support and with tips - I was amazed and moved..
I haven't done this run for years and yesterday, as I say, I was really low - for a number of reasons - and couldn't stop the negative thoughts that made me want to stop with every second step. The wonderful support from lovely people on here made me want to try. So I walked 5 mins then started running slow. Bach came on my playlist - light, positive and metronomic. As I approached Snowerhill road, Eminem replaced Bach with 'Watch me burn' - OMG the energy and intensity of this song triggered an endorphin rush; my head was tingling, I started smiling (something I rarely do, running or not) and got up the hill no problem. I ran on, past the point where the bell goes on the C25k app, deciding to go for the longer, 7k route. 'You're just trying' I said to myself, and it doesn't matter if you stop, if you walk a bit or walk the whole way home!' Van Morrison helped me plod on, I got to the end of Gadbrook Road and turned towards Brockham and home. And I kept going, and even sped up for the final minute before walking the lat 5 mins home.
This is an amazing community - thank you so much!!!

You will also find that everyone on here has days like these . One day the most amazing brilliant run and the next just nothing right 🤷🏼♀️😂I’ve learnt a great deal on here and some days it perks you up or let’s you know ‘ oh that’s not just me then ?’ 😂😂
I find that music can make such a difference on a run. I've downloaded running music from amazon which I find great for running to a tempo, any thing from 150bpm (spm) to 180bpm. If your interested in doing that you could also Google Audiofuel , there the people behind the Stepping stones podcasts. Like you I also enjoy listening to classical music but tend to leave that for my walks. But some times, if I'm out in the country side, I just like to listen to the sounds of nature. Happy running!👍👍👍.
