Scared to run!

Morning all, as some of you know I have been plagued with a variety of injuries for the last 2 months. I went out last Sunday for 20 minutes and had awful knee pain for four days after. It's getting to the point where my running has been so sporadic and the results have been so annoying (and painful) that I just can't be bothered. I've already been to the physio 3 times. Feel like I'm constantly moaning. Sorry. Just had to get it off my chest.

It's seems so wrong to "like" your post. I can feel your frustration and pain and can totally relate to it. I know I was feeling much the same a few weeks ago. Did you get any sort of diagnosis from the physios?

Can you distract your frustrations by doing something from the strength and Flex group as long as it doesn't make things worse.

I'm sure you'll get back to where you were in time, it seems this injury thing is another running obstacle that we have to keep getting over.

🤗🤗

Thank you for the empathy 😊 I've got exercises to do. Messaged the physio today, so I'll see what she says.

Sometimes it’s good to just let it all out 🤷🏼‍♀️📣📣Injury just wears you down and sort of lets the air out of your tyres , so to speak 😔 that’s how I felt when I couldn’t run or managed a bit and then had to stop and ‘take the long walk home 😢

After an eight day break , no good .... then another ten day break and still no good , I just drew a line and said I wouldn’t run for the month.

I totally filled the void with finding out what exercises I needed to do and made that my project to keep me occupied .

Still felt miserable not running and as much as I was pleased to read of everyone else’s progress on here , I did feel extremely sorry for myself 🙄😂

I realise you’ve had more to deal with so it must be particularly disappointing so I hope your physio can come up with a good rehab plan that will help .

Following a course of action always feels more positive I tend to think .👌😃

Go easy and be patient ( 😂 that’s a good one coming from me 🙄😂)

Thank you. Patience is not my strong suit either!

You're not the only one here to see a physio recently. Follow their advice. I caught my current problem early and was lucky in getting a quick appointment.

It is indeed frustrating to know what you're capable of and being unable to do it due to injury.

What did the physio say was the probable cause of the knee pain?

I can't remember, but I have an exercise to do!

Oh Liz, I could not relate more!

I’m sorry you are suffering but don’t apologise for posting - it’s a relief knowing you’re not alone!

My runs since February have been equally sporadic and I’ve found it soo frustrating; trying to be sensible/disappointed with the stats/push/pull/pain returns - gahhhh 😖

At least your general annoyance probably stems from your desire to run, which means your mojo is strong and healthy and we all know how important that is!

I hope your physio will see you right. Best of luck.

Thank you, yes it's soooo frustrating. I keep reminding myself that I'm not in training for the England squad and I'd I have to go back to 5k and build up again or doesn't really matter...

I have had a bad spell recently myself and needed a follow up physio visit today. There are alway three questions I need to have answered ; what is wrong? , what do we need to do to fix it? and why did it happen (to avoid a repeat) ? Today was a tidy up job on a peroneal muscle injury; there was a part right next to the tibia which had stubbornly resisted the last massage. I was given exercises to keep on top of it and we decided that maybe there was too big a heel drop difference between my old shoes and my new ones . I do have an in between pair; so they will be deployed when I start running again on Monday. I will just keep trying stuff until I get it right; I whinge a lot too 😂😂. 🤞for both of us 🙂

I'm really sorry for you. The pain can really get you down and being deprived of running is horrible. When I saw a physio it took me months of doing the exercises to fix my problem. I was lucky enough to be able to carry on running apart from taking about a month off at the worst of it. Maybe some time out would be good and throw all your running enthusiasm towards determined physio exercises instead for a while to make you feel more positive about resolving the situation. Running really does teach you patience in many ways! I hope you start getting better very soon!

Sorry to hear you're struggling Liz. Maybe you've been pushing yourself too hard. It sounds like it's not the pleasure it should be at the moment. Perhaps you could give yourself a proper break, give your strained bits time to recover completely, take the pressure off yourself. Then you can return refreshed, repaired and raring to go (but gently).

Of course I might just be talking rubbish- everyone's different but sometimes we push ourselves too hard (speaking personally too)

Agreed. We do sometimes push ourselves harder than we should. (Myself included.)

Another Liz here and I know exactly how you feel, I'm in a similar position. 3 trips to the physio and fancy new orthotics later..... However, after a short run on Thursday which I was not motivated to do I experienced that after run feeling and felt fantastic all day. Still not completely back on it but it reminded me why I love running. Hang on in there and I hope you get your mojo back soon. 🙏
