Hey guys, I feel like I only post on here to moan! I am doing Ju Ju’s magic run which I have found fantastic, however today’s 2nd 55 min run was horrendous - I ran really slowly, much slower than the 1st 55 min run and didn’t get the same distance but found it really hard - felt worn out throughout the run and kept having to walk, which I never do. I think I’m going to really struggle with the warmer weather coming! Any tips welcome. I know a lot of you get up early to avoid the heat but I am not an early bird. Should I accept that I can’t run as well in the summer months?? For context I started c25k in October last year so haven’t run in the heat! Let me know if you’ve had the same experience and how/ if you overcame!
Many thanks as always

Hello VG11, don't worry about having a little moan - we all do it!Was it the heat today? Or was it just one of those runs?
I don't fare well in the heat either and like you, I'm not a morning person. Last summer (my 1st running) there were many mornings where I'd intended to run and realised I'd left it too late heat-wise. So I went in the evening, or left it a day.
It's all about distance not speed helped me a lot, just take it easy it doesn't matter how long it takes your not breaking any records, I never ever thought I would run the distances that I'm doing now, two 10ks a week with a 5k thrown in the middle, my goal is a half marathon before summers out..
Well stocksy1967 you are doing amazingly well! At the moment I have neither distance or speed 😬 I would love to hear how you get on with your half marathon goal - best of luck! I can only aspire 🤞
I am not sure this helps, but there have been times where a 3 or even 4 day break really gave me a boost again when running. I found for me that 2 days recovery is sometimes not enough, especially when I ran solidly 3 times per week. So a 4 to 5 day break every 4 or 5 weeks does seem to do wonders for me.
I never take these willingly but when it happens I often hit a PB the next time I run.
Some runs are good, some not so much, it happens to everyone. Chalk it up to experience and move on, that's how to come back from a bad run.I never thought I was a morning person until lockdown. I started going out early not for the weather, but to keep out of everyone's way. Now I actually prefer early mornings, so it is something you can cultivate.
The other thing I'd recommend is making sure you're well hydrated - and that means drinking plenty the day before your run, not just before you leave. If you feel you have really heavy legs and can't get energy into them, it could well be dehydration. I learned that the hard way!
We all get “those” runs VG, please don’t worry about it.
As for running in the heat, you do get used to it to a certain degree. Make sure you drink plenty leading up to your runs too. I guess I’m lucky in that I AM a morning person, but last summer I found I was way more able to deal with the heat than when I first started. Your body grows accustomed to it over time.
Have fun, and don’t let this last run get you down. You’ll bounce back! 😀
I really struggle with the heat as I get very hot when running. I do run early in the day but also enjoy short runs in the rain in the summer months as the rain helps cool me down. Like others have said I plan fir the duration of the run rather than speed or distance. I usually aim for a minimum of 30 minutes and anything else is a bonus. Occasionally a run goes well and I have ended up running for 60 mins, but it's never planned. Each day seems to be different. Even on the 'bad' days, you are out there exercising so well done.
I had the some problem the other day. I found this article on the net. Some good tips on warm weather running from runners world. runnersworld.com/training/a...
I don't have much to add to the good advice you've already had except to say I think its important that we talk about the 'bad' runs and tough times rather than only share the great moments! It would be so discouraging to think that everybody else was running like gazelles not breaking a sweat! I for one have plenty of crap runs, but I try to boost myself up by saying to myself that the magic awaits on the next outing. So celebrate the crap and hope the next one releases your inner gazelle!!!! 🤣🤗
