Having considered (and rejected) a diabetes foot testerā€™s advice to stop running a few weeks ago, I had an ECG test done last week and my GP has detected a slight heart defect. It is first degree block. šŸ«€šŸ‘Ž

He advises stopping running until I get a 24 hour ECG. I will. āœ‹

Reading about it, first degree block is hardly the worst thing in the world, and runners do have it but can continue running.

Has anyone else on the forum experienced this?

In the meantime, walking and ebiking for me.

Sorry to hear that Heavy Foot. Must be worrying for you - and very frustrating. I hope all goes well with the ECG.

How frustrating for you HF but at least youā€™re on the case and with luck will be able to carry on running before too long! In the meantime, enjoy the walking and ebiking!

Will do, Ogr. Iā€™m told walking can be great exercise.

Oh boy! Best to wait for the ECG. At least nowadays they're lightweight digital devices rather than the large walkman sized cassette tape devices they used to use.

I suppose I just have it strapped on and just have a normal day. šŸŒž

That's pretty much what you'll be told, I think.

Good Luck with the ECG HeavyFoot. Just think of it as a short running break and enjoy the cycling and walking.

Oh no I'm sorry to hear that, what a b#*r! Fingers crossed for better news and hopefully you'll be running again before too long. How are you getting on with your ebike? I'm thinking of getting one.

Thank you very much. Iā€™m getting on fine with my ebike. It did take a while to find the balance and confidence of yesteryear. My main concern now is the terrible state of the roads. One piece of advice: be sure that the bike is powerful enough for not only your weight, but also for the hilliness of your area. Good luck!

Yes, the roads are shocking! Thanks for the advice, and good luck to you toošŸ€

That must be worrying for you, but just consider that your heart is in much better shape because of your running and overall youā€™re fitter and that can only be good.

Hopefully you can get the 24 hour ECG done quickly and then youā€™ll know what youā€™re dealing with.

Keep us updated HF šŸ™‚

Thank you, N63. More walking than cycling in this weather I think šŸ’¦

Wishing you all the best for that ECG. I'm sure you'll be running again soon, meanwhile enjoy your walking and cycling! I'm also on the IC at the moment with an annoying Achilles tendon niggle but I've found an outlet for my frustration in Kayaking.

Enjoy! I gave my kayak (big plastic jobbie) away when I found battling against the Cornish waves was much harder than the placid Mediterranean.

Sorry to hear this but sounds like you're getting on with investigating the (potential) problem. Will be reassuring perhaps when you know what you're dealing with - hopefully nothing to worry about. Take it easy mean time. Good luck!
