It was a rainy morning but I had to get out before a Saturday morning work meeting - blah! So, out I venture in the rain on what was supposed to be an easy run. Ended up doing a 10km run at a decent pace but was soaked - literally - from head to toes.
But, the feeling after the meeting and a warm shower and steaming coffee was worth it. Feeling very smug!
Any recommendations for a good, breathable rain jacket would be most welcome!
Happy weekend!

Waterproof AND breathable would be lovely, but for day to day runs breathable is better. For a 10 k out and back, in normal temperatures, you don’t heed anything more. Waterproof jackets are really only necessary for mountain or fell running where you might be out for a long period or overnight, where being cold and wet in the cold and or wind could be dangerous. You do get used to being wet, and we’re ok til we stop running, when get the chills, so planning to run in the wet so you finish near home is a good idea
The most inexpensive waterproof run jacket I’ve seen is from Decathlon 🙂
Thanks misswobble. Didn’t think about the fell running. I agree that ending the run near home is ideal. But what happens when it is cold and rainy? Getting wet takes on another dimension then. Will check out what Decathlon has to offer…will match my other Decathlon stuff
Just a warning if you don’t run with music. My decathlon waterproof run jacket is very noisy like a crisp packet rustling. I now wear a Nike one if I have too and haven’t had that issue 👍🏻
It was refreshing and liberating to realise that you’re wet and that’s that! But what do you do when it is cold and rainy? How do you protect the long sleeve stuff underneath?
I’ve got an OMM Halo jacket which I rarely wear. Packs away to the size of a tennis ball so I can put it in my pack easily if needed. Probably wear it about 3-4 times a year 😬
Last winter I was out running in snowy, sleety, haily driving wind. I was near home when it started with just a flutter of snow. I decided to press on. It was vile a bit further into the run. It was only about 8km though so I hung in there. I was layered up with a light tee with a long sleeved Nike top over that, with a hooded light run jacket over that. I had Nike run leggings on. By about 7k I was frozen and feeling very uncomfortable I only had a short run to get me home so was legging it and trying to generate body heat.
I’ve still not bought a waterproof jacket, but maybe I would have been better off if I had 🤷♀️
I find I’ve got a waterproof cycling jacket ☺️ I couldn’t imagine running in it though. It’s neoprene type material and apple shaped for some reason 😁.
It’s a tricky one because truly waterproof jackets don’t breathe, so maybe we’d stay dry from the rain, but we’d sweat and get chilled when we stop running.
My jacket is shower proof and keeps the worst of the rain off, but I have to be honest and say that I don’t bother with one when it rains in the spring or summer. It’s lovely running in the rain! In the winter it’s not so pleasant, so I’ll wear my jacket (it’s a Trespass one) and stop running close to the car or home. 🏃♀️
