From my last stroggle to today’s best joggle

Well, my last run was completely pants, with me saying that it was the hardest struggle of a run since first week of C25k! ( i.e. stroggle)

And today?

Weather was gorgeous in the morning, and I’d planned to do a short run on my old C25k route and VOILA! Best time ever on that route!!! EVVERR!!! 😁😁😁😁⏱

So, not getting too cocky, I know it’s only an improvement of 4 min and 6 seconds over the last 8 months but improvement is improvement!

It certainly made this runner very very very happy!

😊😁😊😁😊😁😊😁😊

Amazing CBDB! And I’d call 4 minutes and 6 seconds a massive improvement. 👏👏👏

You deserve to be very happy and proud of yourself CBDB, a 5K PB and 4 minutes 6 seconds quicker than your first 5k, well done, I notice also that ALL your 5K runs have been sub 40 minutes, congratulations for that as well 🏃🏾 👍.

Thank you! I fear it’s not a 5k route, it was just my old C25k route which is ca 4K. So I still have some way to go to get a 5k under 30min, possibly never. But I’m ok with that.

My two fastest 5K runs are 30.55 and 30.56 but most have averaged around 33/34 minutes apart from during the winter months when they were around 36/38 minutes, but a few were +40 minutes when I had that sore right leg I mentioned in February, perhaps I might be able to get a 29 minutes 5K if some expert on pacing helped me, that is a big might. 😊 🏃🏾

👍🏽💪👏... one day... on the other hand, I do like slow deliciously joggling runs. 😊

YAAAY! Well done! Any rhyme or reason to it?!

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply toLizcanrun

Well it was a short run c(ca 4K), and they do seem easier now because when Training up to 10k the short runs were 5k.

Lizcanrun profile image
LizcanrunGraduate10 in reply toCBDB

I know that should be the case, but it always amazes me that I can do 10 miles one day (or at least I could before my pesky injuries), and then a few days later I'd find a short 4k a real stroggle!

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply toLizcanrun

Yeah. With the longer runs, something else is at play as well. A sort of ‘finding your groove’ or ‘settling in’ that feels meditative and sections feel like you can joggle forever.

I don’t get that with shorter runs.

Lizcanrun profile image
LizcanrunGraduate10 in reply toCBDB

Definitely, I think that happens with me at around 4k. I also think the way I approach long runs mentally makes a difference. Basically, I think my toxic 10 is a toxic 25!

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply toLizcanrun

I have to admit I’m not quite sure what the toxic 10min are. I think because I run so slow, most runs are enjoyable right from the start... mostly. 😂

Any improvement is good; the important thing is to enjoy it. I can't see me knocking another 4 minutes off my time, so enjoy the fact that you've achieved what you have.

Thank you yes. I didn’t really try that hard, I just set off for another run. So it’s great to see!

Sometimes those are the best ones, where we surprise ourselves because it wasn't intended, it just happened.

Congratulations 🎊! These are indeed a set of timings to be very proud of. It's interesting to see how many months in between it has taken you to progress, it confirms it's not instantaneous, but that it does happen if you keep at it.Thank you for sharing and confirming that speed can and does happen - on a slow, plod on a dark winter day when we ask ourselves why we are doing it, here's the answer!

Best wishes ☺️

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply toRaisemeup

Yeah, and I think it happens for most others much faster. I have my particular health challenges but this shows that improvement happens slowly but surely. One just has to have patience with oneself and enjoy the journey as much as one can. I do! 😄😃😃
