I must make a confession. I haven't been out for a run since the end of December. Last time I went out it was sunny but cold and damp, and my arthritic shoulder and neck were reminding me for 2 days that they were still there... sleepless nights and pain sort of put me off going out while the weather was cold and damp, so for the last 11 weeks or so I've been keeping myself going on the exercise bike and walking as much as I have been able to.
Yesterday, I hosted the weigh-in post over on the weight loss forum, on the official first day of Spring, which got me thinking that, hey, the weather is better so it's time I got myself out there again. Consequently this morning, when my ageing bladder decided it was time I got up at 7am, I decided to go out with no target other than to see how far I got. I turned off the announcements on Strava and set off on a route which I know is approximately 5k, kept the pace down and, well, just went with no aim other than to enjoy the run.
The sun was out, the park was quiet, the Toxic 10 was surprisingly mild after such a break, there were a couple of occasions where I almost - almost but not quite - resorted to walking (and one where I had to stop to tie a flapping shoelace) but ultimately I was pleasantly surprised to be able to get all the way round. I got to the part where I have to cross the road, decided to stop there, and coincidentally the distance was 5.01km! Don't think I could have gone much further today as there wasn't a deal left in the tank, but a time of 35:18, although far from a PB, well, it'll do me.
I reckon it's time to print myself a copy of the Magic Plan off again, get my A into G and push for that 10k once more!
