Clockwise or anti-clockwise?

Has anyone noticed a preference for running either clockwise or anti-clockwise routes? For me it’s def the latter, regardless of wind direction.

Googling this I found some fascinating suggestions as it turns out that race tracks are run counter clockwise.

These include blood flow, position of the heart and the earth’s rotation.

Interesting information, all my runs are ran clockwise in the parks and places I run, however, just thinking that the two parkruns that I have run and got PB's are run anti clockwise.

An interesting thought. I do both in fairly equal proportions- but that is much more to do with hills & mud! 😂

That's what I was thinking!

Some of my courses are clockwise and some are anticlockwise. I'd never even thought about it before. Mine are selected on terrain and distance, and the usual desire to start from a high point and gradually lose elevation over the course of the run (even though there may be other hills in the run).

We once had a similar discussion because I thought that most parkruns were clockwise. Until we reviewed all the tourist ones we had done and they were a complete mixture, including a zigzag one

I think mine are mostly anti clockwise 🤣

Thinking about it my standard route is clockwise, but I often put in loops to make it longer at the weekend and these are often anti-clockwise. And generally speaking the terrain sets the course for me, especially in a new area.

Never even considered it. I pick routes based on distance, elevation, and where I fancy running.

Ooooh interesting! I just had a little think and they’re mostly clockwise. Other than out and backs of course. 😊
