It's not too late, there is still time to join in the Cape of Good Hope Ultra Relay!

Please reply to this post if you want to join us. We will get you set up and will send you the joining instructions by chat.

WHAT IS IT: The Cape of Good Hope Ultra Relay (aka The Great Group Run)!!

Originally Irish-John ‘had the dream’ - a relay race along the ‘longest walkable road in the world’ from Russia all the way to Cape Town in South Africa.

After some background work, we have now started latest HU Challenge!!! And it’s a big one! The ULTIMATE road run. Over 25,000km!!!

Something to make us feel a little more connected and add a bit of extra fun to our weekly runs. This challenge will run for as long as it takes us ....

HOW WILL IT WORK?

★ The challenge will be hosted by Irish-John, Charlies1, and RunaroundSue

Follow the three Team members to receive an email notification whenever they write a new challenge post! You can always unfollow later 😊 (Check in your settings to make sure you have these email alerts enabled)

★ The challenge started on Monday 1st March, and will continue for as long as it takes, with regular posts here on Bridge

★ This will be a walk/run challenge - all walks and runs qualify (who’s going to run 25,000km without the odd walk ???)

★ Website for this challenge where you can find out about our route. Take a look here

sites.google.com/view/cogh-...

It already has some information on the 1st leg of the route (Anadyr to the Kazakhstan border, through Russia), and on some of the places we will visit along the way.

★ Once you have been set up, you will be able to enter the date and distance covered for each of your own runs via the same website (you will receive details on exactly how to do this once you are signed up)

★ You will be able to see where you have run on a map and the website will track our overall progress along the route.

★ You will be identified by your HU member name and won’t need to disclose any further information besides date and distance

★ We will write a weekly HU post on Bridge to update on highlights of the week, discuss progress and maybe even take guesses on how long we think it will take to reach the finish line!!!

ARE YOU UP FOR THIS CHALLENGE?

★ Will you help us reach the Cape of Good Hope in good time? Let us know in the comments if you want to take part, then we can enter you into the team!!!

I've pinned this post 👍

Popping in to take a look around. Just feeling a bit apprehensive about joining 2 challenges (just entered in a Conqueror challenge) and using 1 run for 2 separate distances. You can't physically be in 2 races at the same time, so why would you be able to do that virtually? Isn't that cheating? I am a sucker for rules and regulations, even for virtual challenges 😝

No conflict of interests IMO. See COGH as collective fun. Big km, small km: all good. I’m currently doing it from the IC.

You injured GailX ? X

Shin splints - not from running, but from *walking* ... to the vaccination centre with M! It was a long walk, but I’m still surprised it triggered. Shows I now have ok running legs, but crappy walking ones!

Hopefully short-lived, if past experience is a guide.

Aww no-that’s bad luck. My dog had an ear infection last week and I had to put drops in each day- I knelt down putting them in and felt my knee twist as I got up - thought I’d done some real damage - luckily it walked off but it shows how easily it can happen. Hopefully you’ll be back out there soon xx

HI Charles ! where can i post a link to photos of our next village destination - Sasyr ? I found a site here - amazing photos "one day in Sasyr" - will you post on the site ? fototerra.ru/Russia/Sasyr/H...

Sasyr is a rural locality, the only inhabited locality, and the administrative center of Ulakhan-Chistaysky National Rural Okrug of Momsky District in the Sakha Republic, Russia, located 400k from Khonuu, the administrative centre of the district.

Founded in 1940, its population is approx. one thousand people. The village also hosts the main estate of the Iskra State farm, and the main industries are reindeer and horse breeding, and the fur trade. There is also a House of Culture, a secondary school, health care and some shops. Electricity is generated through a diesel power plant, and central heating is supplied by boiler houses.

Also, from Sasyr, there will be an amazing view of Peak Pobeda (Victory), which at 3,003 m (9,852 ft) it is the highest peak of the Chersky Range and according to Wikipedia was climbed (in winter) for the first time in 2018 (!) by two Italians. Imagine when they see 70 odd of us running past.

🤣

Thanks Juliet202, Great photosI have put the page up here: sites.google.com/view/cogh-....

Feel free just to post on the forum when we are near to a place.

Just so brilliant to see photos of this really remote place and to learn something about it. And brilliant that you can search the Russian sites, too.👍

Ok, I'll join. Still feeling a little apprehensive about using the distance of 1 run for 2 separate challenges, but ok call me crazy that way. I'll just have to deal with my inner demons. Will I get a message or so telling me how to log my distance?

Welcome. I know what you mean about multiple races, but this is a bit different. You are adding your distances to the total.

I’m intrigued!! As I’m already running 20-30 km a week they could be put towards a target 🎯 Please count me in and explain what exactly I have to do.

HiAny chance I could join you on your trek? Haven’t visited the HU site for a while so missed seeing this till now - looking for a new challenge as John O’Groats within sight at the end of LEJOG6! Apols if this message duplicates one I thought I sent earlier but can’t find any longer! Doh!

Thanks. 👍
