I'm popping over here from our sister forum, Fun Beyond 10k and Race support, to let you know of a virtual event we are running. We've run severalof these events over the last few years; some of you will be familiar with the format already - for those who aren't all the details can be found below.
โญ๐ข๐ขWe'd love you to join us for the HU10 - spring 24 ๐ข๐ขโญ
In short we invite our VRBs to cover a given distance, running or walking, wherever they choose! We nominate a date for the event, share our training, run our run (or walk our walk) and then look forward to reading all the 'race' reports. If you're able to set off at the nominated date and time, you have the added boost of knowing we are all on the virtual HU start line together - running on our own, but definitely not alone.
โญ Distance: this time you will have the option of 10k or 10 miles (or both!)
โญ Main event date: Sunday 19th May at 9:30am (however, as always, we realise the date/time might not work for everyone; so in order to give greater flexibility we will accept runs/runwalks/walks at any time on Sunday 19th May, or at any point during the following week of Monday 20th to Sunday 26th May). By my calculations, that gives us 8 weeks to train (although I may still be walking as injury currently stops play)!!!
โญ How does it work: in the past we have set up a music playlist (based on your suggestions), we have put together a 'run experience' using the RunGo app and we have even made race bibs available (so long as you have a printer at home!). You run, run/walk or walk your chosen distance, wherever you like, on a day that suits you.
โญ Finally, we will of course have a winner! In the past, the winner has been the person who completed their run in the time closest to our randomly generated time (after the event closes). Maybe you have a more creative suggestion - but however we choose our winner, we will ensure there is absolutely no requirement to run fast to win this event! ๐๐
Do let us know if you have a more creative suggestion!
โญ We hope youโll be eager to join in (and help make this another great one)
This event is of course entirely free to enter and yet again, there are no t-shirts, medals, socks, aid stations or toilet queues! No training plans or routes will be supplied! Instead, a unique HU experience, run your way ๐
If you're currently running around 5k, this may encourage you to push to 10k. If you're running at 10k, perhaps it will give you the boost to get to the magic 10 miles. If you're running beyond, perhaps you can use it as one of your speed runs! If ... well, you can use your imagination ๐
We'd love to have you along. Let us know if you'd like to join us at the startline in the comments below and we will add you to the start list which can be viewed here docs.google.com/spreadsheet...

Hi!!! I will second that plea wholeheartedly!!! I'll add you to the list now and look forward to seeing you on the start line in May. Happy injury free running ๐
So should I put you down for the 10 mile Dijep? Can we help you on the way to that badge? Or is it too soon just now (we're here to help, not to pressure!)๐
I've just got to laugh... I replied to you yesterday and this morning I'm ringing the physio as my lower back is niggling!๐ Can I let you know after my appointment in Thursday?
It's still a long way off. I can easily take you off nearer the time if you wish. Right now I can't run a step but I'm down for the 10k and the 10 miles ๐คทโโ๏ธ- I figure it will at least encourage me to walk further than I am doing now, even if i can't run them (and let's be honest, I am NOT going to be able to run 10 miles in 8 weeks time ๐).
In the meantime, I hope the physio has just the right magic trick to fix that niggle.
My back is rather tender today after the pummeling it got from the physio yesterday. But there good news it's she thinks I'm fine to carry on running ( it was hurting with sitting and lying down) and I've got more exercises to do So leave me for the 10 miles. I'll start building up gradually from next weekend and see how I go. Last time I tried I made it to 8 miles but then my knee went, but I won't know unless I try again.
Iโm in too! Iโm almost back at 10k so I think Iโll be brave and aim for 10 miles. Thereโs a great 10 mile run along an old railway line locally which Iโve always wanted to do. This seems like a perfect occasion to give it a go!
I spotted this yesterday on the beyond 10k page and was going to reply then forgot ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Yes I would love to take part. Not sure on the distance yet, but more than likely will be 10km and I've roped my husband into running it with me again. I may even get my dad to (he's training for his final marathon next year when he will be 80).
I'll add you to the 10k just now beth; if you change your mind I can swap you to the 10 miles in a flash. Well done Mr beth and Papa beth too for their support ๐, and a massive amount of kudos to your dad - he is awesome!!!
Can you put me down for the 10k please? I might do both but it depends how I am after my marathon at the start May (and the one at the end of May, if I do it).
Oh wow, you have a very busy month of May FC!!! Wishing you lots of luck and stamina! I'll add you for 10k now, but just let me know if you want to do both.
What a fab idea. Iโm doing my first 10k event on 26/05 (Race for Life) Am I allowed to double up and use the same 10k for both ? If so, please add me to the starting list
You most certainly are allowed to double up - admirable efficiency ๐My first ever event - and first piece of bling - was a Race for Life. Just the 5k, but so emotional.
I'll add you to the list and send good wishes for the live event. Enjoy!!!
Yikes. Sorry I didn't reply to you sooner. Great to have you onboard again. You still have almost 6 weeks to get 10k ready again ... step by step. Good luck and look forward to joining you on the startline ๐
I've just seen this now. I'd love to sign up please for 10K. I have just recently got back to completing 10K distances. So would love to take part please. I'll be celebrating my 50th Birthday on the 16th of May so I can add the 10K run on the 19th into the celebrations.
Iโve had a stinker of a cold and Iโm feeling a bit sorry for myself. 10 miles seems too much of a stretch in the next couple of weeks but Iโve been pretty consistently running 10k so Iโll do that instead!
Once again, thanks so much for organising this wonderful event! โค๏ธ
