Gave my calf 3 days rest between runs but kept to my new strengthening regime and stretch sessions throughout the day.

Seems to be working , this was another good run , no trouble with my leg and if anything I need to just get used to running again πŸ˜‚πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I just let my pace do it’s own thing today , didn’t do as much pulling back thought I would see what my calf could do .

Resisted any temptation to go faster and further , pleasantly surprised at splits and pace. More than delighted that my calf felt fine .

It was a pretty miserable morning and the temperature has turned nippy again and the drizzle started half way in. Didn’t care , so happy to be running again πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I’ll do another 4K in a couple of days I think and then move on to 4.5 . I’ve lost all notion of continuing the magic plan to 10K, I’ll leave that alone just now .

Before the calf strain my next distance would’ve been 8K , however an injury puts your goals into perspective so my first goal is to just run and get the calf used to it .

Second goal will be to get my 5K’s back as I had only just started to post them on β€˜Not a Parkrun’ before the strain .

Ran with the Renegades Podcast again, Obama and Springsteen in conversation , Episode 2 . β€˜American Skin’

As much as I’m missing my 🎢🎢🎢 these are keeping me engrossed and allowing the run to β€˜just happen’

Photos are from πŸ•β€πŸ¦ΊπŸ•β€πŸ¦ΊπŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί walk on the shore later in the day . The blue sky was from my previous run . It did not look like that today πŸ₯ΆπŸ’¨πŸŒ«

It seems to be chilly everywhere but here on the south coast

A good run and sensible not pushing your calf

We’ve had a few lovely days but then overnight the hat, scarf & gloves were back on πŸ˜‚πŸ§£πŸ§€πŸ₯Ά

Very happy to just run and not β€˜hear’ from the calf πŸ˜‚

........Grateful πŸ™

Colder is ok because we can wrap up and so good the calf is better, I get a twinge in mine on longer runs and am very careful

Nice and easy...so glad that your calf is behaving πŸ₯°

It has turned a little cold again...what a change! Low cloud here for the past 2 days, and seems like more of the same tomorrow.

Stay safe! πŸŒπŸ’πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ₯°

Our days are brightening a little in the afternoon but bitterly cold all day πŸ₯ΆπŸ₯Ά

I got used to the sunshine πŸ˜‚β˜€οΈ Should know better πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Happy to be running and will not put it at risk .

3/4 weeks on IC has made me tailor my ambitions a bit πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

( I will admit to a conversation with myself at 3.5K about extending by 10% but now congratulate myself for resisting πŸ˜‚πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜‚)

Good luck for your long run πŸ‘ŒπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ€

A lovely recovery run for you and great that all is well with your calf. You’re doing all the right things and it’s sensible not to push it.

I noticed the negative splits, too! I think that this can only help. By running that first km relatively slowly, you’re allowing your body to warm up slowly, too. I’m no expert, but increasing pace slightly when you’re warmed up would logically be the way to go.

Well done, and hope all continues to go well! 🀞😊

Thanks Jools πŸ™‚

I do try hard to make that first 1K a slow and steady one ( even before the calf injury , but not always successfullyπŸ™„).

I’m better at it now as I feel a little less β€˜running fit’ and of course just a little paranoid Rev the calf 😰

This run I just let myself run at whatever felt steady. I’m not a fast runner at best of times and have learnt that being too ambitious on that score tends to just spoil the run for myself πŸ™„πŸ˜‚

My heart rate is pretty way up even tho’ I think I’m steady , maybe it’s anxiety πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

I think you may be underestimating your expertise , I’ve learnt quite a bit from your posts πŸ‘ŒπŸ™‚

That is brilliant news! So happy to hear your calf is holding up, and look at those splits πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ lovely pics, great to see the blue sky, even if it's not from today, the promise of a better tomorrow 😍 keep looking after your calf and soon you'll be doing that 8k and on to that 10k! ☺️🐚🌷

Thanks BF , the day I took that photo was like a summers day β˜€οΈπŸ™‚

The sea was so still and calm , idyllic and then the temperature dropped over night and the world was grey again πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

A hint of what’s to come tho’ and the colours are peeping through πŸŒ±πŸ’πŸŒΊ

Hopefully we will both get back to full fitness for some lovely spring/summer running β˜€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈβ˜€οΈ

This is great news, glad to hear your calf is holding up and not giving anymore aggro. A steady and sensible return to just running, sounds good plan. We spend so much of our C25K and then 10k journey plotting and planning 'goals', after injury, they need to take a back seat for a bit as you say!! Beautiful spot you are walking and running in there. On a clear day it must lift the soul, that and getting back to gentle running πŸ˜€ Gives me hope for my eventual slow return from the IC. Shin splints aggro still causing me grief. Physio exercises and stretching for me until I have them under control. Patience and injury recovery are not easy bedfellows!

Thanks , I do hope your shins improve soon , like you I find patience is a challenge πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

I think I felt like something I just got and really liked was suddenly β€˜whipped away’ , sounds dramatic but I was quite bereft 😒 and quite anxious about it not getting better or becoming a recurring thing .

I suppose it might recur if I don’t take care but I’ve been totally devoted to my strengthening and stretching regularly throughout my day .

As long as I keep it up πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I doubt I’ll ever be a fast or a long distance runner but I do live in a lovely spot and running around it was all I wanted when I started so getting back to some β€˜recreational’ 5 or 6K’s will do me fine .

That distance gets me round the lighthouse and shore or down to the beach for a coffee πŸ‘Œβ˜€οΈ

Keep your chin up and take care of those shins πŸ‘ŒπŸ™‚ you’ll be back on your runs soon I hope πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ™‚

I so identify with the bereft feeling on β€˜losing’ running 😩 The times I’ve wailed β€œI just miss running SO MUCH” to my poor husband who looks at me with a puzzling look. Every runner I see happily running past me, I have to stop myself glaring at them or silently criticising their form 😬 haha! But you are back and this is good πŸ’ͺ🏼 And gives me hope.

RacingintheStreet profile image
RacingintheStreetGraduate10 in reply to Runforurlife

Haha and I soooo identify with giving runners the β€˜evil eye’ ( after I’ve smiled a sweet good morning as they go by πŸ˜ˆπŸ˜‚) or resisting the temptation to hobble alongside them saying β€˜ I used to run you know β€˜ πŸ˜‚πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ. And dispense advice on warming up etc. ( half of them are probably marathon & HM runners πŸ™„πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚)

Then I remind myself to β€˜be kind’ that I don’t have the sole rights to running and not to be so pathetic πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Quite sad really πŸ™„πŸ™„

I’ve noticed so many new runners out this lockdown tho’, many have the look of C25K πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ.

I started during last lockdown and barely saw any πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

So far so good with calf but I’m not taking any chances .

I hope you too start to see a bit of light at the end of your tunnel , it is really frustrating when there isn’t an β€˜instant fix’.

I think tho’ when you want that β€˜something’ back you dig in and do what’s needed to get it back πŸ’ͺ😠πŸ’ͺ

Let’s hope it’s soon πŸ‘ŒπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Was saving these podcast for getting back , really enjoying listening to two of my favourites .

One a great speaker the other quieter but speaks through his music , they’re backgrounds and stories of their youth growing up in America is so interesting πŸ˜„
