A bit of a painful knee

I haven't long graduated C25K and I am only getting out once a week at the moment due to work etc. However, my left knee is hurting more with each run. It doesn't hurt whilst running but afterwards or if I need to stop and walk for a short bit it will then hurt. I have done a little research and it sounds like it could be an IT band issue. Rest is the advice but only going out once a week isnt excessive. I'm really enjoying this running lark but I'm feeling my knee may put a stop to it but I want to carry on. Any advice out there please.

Hi , same as me I get pain in my right knee , I did an online appointment with my doc and a physio spoke to me and said sounds like “runners knee” gave me exercises and said to cut down the distance fir a while 🙈 we’ll see I’m not convinced , I bought a cheap knee compression support which I think helped so try that maybe , I’ve only been out once last week and not yet this week I’ve been a bit rubbish , really want to carry on as I’ve entered Reading half 🙈🤣 hope yours gets better soon

I'm sorry you're having knee issues too. I have always worn knee supports from the start as I know my knees are not my strongest point (I did wonder if they could be the problem). Thanks for letting me know what your physio said. All information helps. Good luck with the Reading half, you're braver than I am.

If it is the IT band, than this might help. I started with those exercises just a few days ago after I had some niggly knee pain again, and it feels like It already is helping: youtu.be/1iODncOLJnk

But if it continues I’d definitely would see a physio.

That was very interesting and I will give it a try. If I have no improvement after a few weeks I will go to a physio. I'm disappointed that after only about 15 weeks of running I already have a problem. Thank you for sharing, very helpful.
