Good morning runners! A happy Friday to you all! I did get out for a run today, a plodding slow 5k. Didn't really enjoy it, found that a few times this week 😯 struggling with feeling tired and a bit heavy legged and a bit low on motivation to go further. Wanted a 10k ideally today and there was just no chance!
Booze, still off the drink! 💪🏻
Weight... I think this is what's sucking my motivation most of all. Zero change! Not even a pound 😯 despite eating well, walking and running everyday, not a jot of change! Major rethink possibly needed going forward 🤔 will continue with current schedule until end of Feb as planned and then see where I go from there. There's no way I should be not losing 1lb with the work im putting in, don't get it! I understand toning and gaining muscle but I certainly have fat stores that could be burning 🤣🤣🤣

Could be totally wrong RR with my suggestion but bare with me. I was running every other day a month back (before I got injured) and I was getting so tired I needed a break but pushed on til injury. I pushed on cos it was helping my mind but I wasn’t looking after my body by pushing it hard. Though I missed the running I did feel more energised when I came back. Maybe you need a few days break from the running.? You were out every day for most of this month. Or maybe you just had an off day running.
As for losing weight. When I ran before health plan I lost inches on my legs.
But no further progression. Since the healthy eating I’m losing weight 😀.
Well done with no drinking alcohol. I have the occasional glass of wine but I’m going to cut it out again as I feel better for it whenI abstain 😀👍🏻
Yeah a small rest may be the answer, I think all the added walking miles on top of the running possibly a bit much? Tomorrow is being declared a complete rest day for sure, maybe Sunday too. Make me really miss running!
The weight thing I'm really not getting, I know I'm not massively overweight and only really have 1 problem area (beer belly 🤣) but I'd expect to drop a lb or two a week doing what I'm doing. I seem to have plateaued and will need to come up with something to change up my training and keep the muscles guessing. May need to look at fartlek for next months plan 🤢 and daily weight training. One good thing with training is coming up with new ideas and being able to see quite quickly if there working. I'm disheartened today but will be back and looking forward soon I'm sure 😁
When I’ve lost weight in the past I have had a few weeks where I plateau which is normal. Especially as you don’t need to lose much weight either. I also read that doing other forms of exercise can kick start it. As your body can get used to doing the same thing s all the time. I used to do a lot of High Intensity Training which was good but could sometimes set off an episode of sciatica. Hope that helps and definitely think you need a few days rest. Hope it helps.
Can relate to beer belly. Though mine is post kids, and cheese and wine tummy 🤣🤣
But seriously my tummy has gone down loads from eating healthier. I have more to lose than you though. Good luck! 👍🏻😀
Yeah the high intensity stuff is something il be trying on next months plan 👍🏻 running sometimes can fall into just cruising along at a 5-6 out of 10 which isn't enough to be burning the fat off the stubborn parts 🤣 will go fartlek next month and do short bursts of sprinting between steady running. Not something I've tried yet as don't want to injure myself running like a maniac 🤣
4 weeks of that with some HIIT at home should get the fat shifting!💪🏻
Sorry to hear your not feeling it today, which is a surprise as your normaly very possitive with the running, the weight thing must be very frustrating ☹ it's strange, as during jan i was really getting the long runs in, every other day, 7's and 10's even a 10 mile, but no real weight loss, and now, like i said, hardly run in feb, not even walking everyday, lost 1/2 stone 🤷♂️ maybe Indielass is right, try a few days of, maybe that will help, i know this break is my first since started c25k back in sept. 🤔
Yeah I think we started at very similar times, think I'm heading for 6 months of pretty solid running, only missing odd days for niggles. I'm sure today's just a bad day and il be fine in the morning and probably want to go out again 🤣🤣
Having a more gentle couple of days might do the trick-it’s weird how some days you really don’t feel like it and for no particular reason but then by the next day, you feel back to normal and eager to go. When I first started running I was trying to eat a lot more healthier but the weight just didn’t budge. When I eased off the salad munching but kept up the exercise, I lost a stone and it’s kept off- think my body was trying to say it was being restricted too much and didn’t have enough energy so was holding onto the weight
I'm certainly not a salad muncher 🤣 i eat well and try to maintain a calorie count and recommended percentages of fat/protein/carbs from myfitness pal, so 1500 a day basic plus whatever calories i earn back from exercise e.g 1000 extra for a 10k run. Which should lose me 2lb a week minimum. I've probably only lost that in 3 weeks. I'm eating regularly 3 meals a day at regular intervals and plenty of exercise. Weird it just won't move 🤷🏼♂️🤣 just a change of plan next month see how that goes, got to keep plugging away! 👍🏻
Sorry to hear your not enjoying your running lately. It's so hard when you go through one of those spells! Are you mixing things up or trying new routes? Or like others have said, a little break might be what you need at the moment. About the weight, whenever I've hit a plateau when trying to lose weight, what's worked for me is reducing salt intake and also portion control. Healthy eating on its own won't necessarily help, because you can still eat more calories than you burn... Oh, and drinking lots of water, which also helps with running 😁Good luck, hope you find your mojo soon! 💪👍🤗
I could certainly drink more water... Does coffee count? 😁 Salt I barely eat as have family history of high BP and mine is already on the high side...pesky genetics!🤣
Hey Jericho2332 ...muscle weighs more you know!! 💪🏻 I ran everyday in Jan and my weight didn’t change either but I can probably crack walnuts with my calves !!! Running everyday is tiring...you prob could do with a rest day inbetween when you’re feeling like this...I’ve wanted a 10k for the last coupla weeks but haven’t had it in me but I know it’s there waiting to come out when it’s ready...Sometimes we just need to forget what we want out of a run and just see where and how far the run takes us...& you might get a nice surprise?!
Well done on the not drinking...I like a glass or two of wine on a Friday and Sat and I look forward to them, don’t think I’ll be giving them up anytime soon 🤪
I usually don't run on consecutive days, I've been trying to do run then walk on alternating days but have occasionally done both on same day as trying to get the other half into fitness so been getting her out walking as often as I can.
So I'm not running as many miles as January but I'm still covering a lot of ground with the extra walking on top of the 4 runs a week.
I never really plan my runs and just go where and as far as the mood takes me... Just haven't felt like going very far lately 🤣 il be back on form soon I'm sure 👍🏻
Just have an easy week of 3 x 3-5 miles slow runs to reset. Everyone should do this once a month really. I had to do it after RED January and feel much stronger for it 👍🏽
I have a few days where i’m really sensible, then a day or three where i just have to eat and even though i eat the good stuff i eat way too much of it Yes very frustrating
You are doing so well. Don’t be too disheartened. As others have said, build in a deliberate break and then come back with a new running plan to shake things up.
On the weight, you could not weigh yourself for a much longer period (fortnight, month, every two?) Let’s face it: What’s to check really? You know you are getting fitter; you know your consumption is healthier: that’s what’s important. And as mummycav said, building fitness means building muscle, which is heavier than fat. (Some do say ditch the scales entirely... a bit radical maybe!)
Thank you, yeah I think that could be worth a try... Maybe not get weighed until end of next month, take the weekly pressure off a bit and give the new plan chance to take effect. Gonna have a think over the weekend of things to try in March, spot of reading for some new ideas etc 👍🏻
You really are putting loads of work in, so I understand that it must be so so frustrating. I have banned the scales to getting on once a month because it just gets depressing when things don’t change. You said you not massively overweight so it’s always harder to get those last few pounds off.
Before lockdown I used to do combat, hitt, curcuits etc and didn’t really lose much at all. My daughter does weight training and loses loads! Maybe weights is the way to go in between running. Not sure of your age, but I think as we get older weight is harder to drop. That’s my excuse anyway😂
Take a look at resistance bands excercises for stomach and abs- I've been using them on non- run days and my waist has shrunk massively. They're great for targeting specific areas but also work other muscles aswell- and you can certainly feel where your stomach muscles are after using them!- I didn't know I had any!- I've been running and using them since September and have only lost 4lbs- but I look like I've lost over a stone - you'll get there, take a look.💪
Keep going. Like you I’m running 3 times per wk but at a much slower pace as only just completed w4r2. Also counting calories on myfitness pal. And the odd walk on run rest days. I’ve just weighed myself and put on a sodding 1lb!!! The only solitude I take in this is my fat has dropped ever so slightly and my muscle has gone up a smidge. I still feel cheated tho as I feel I’ve been very good with calories this wk even coming in just under the wkly calorie goal.?? I should have had that chocolate digestive with my cuppa after all🤣 in to the next week we go. Head up. Shoulders back and keep running.
