Hello lovelies, long time no post, so quick update. I was dumped onto the couch in June when I broke my ankle, and after starting physio in August, was finally allowed to restart c25k in January. But, three weeks in, my foot began to complain and swell up again. I stopped the runs, rested, etc, and it is improving again. But each time I try to build up, I get the same. So today I spoke to the physio again, and her feeling is that it's all to do with my dodgy hip, and I'm not loading the ankle properly because of wrong posture.
So , it's back to more hip strengthening, pilates and power walking. But no running. Hey ho.

So frustrating grumps; good job you are so determined. I think that they should strike a special medal for you; many would have given up by now. Not you though!! Keep going grumps; you are an example to us all. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Argghhh that’s a pain in the you-know-what GOG. Bet you’re pretty cheesed off. ☹️
Still, you have your pilates and walking to keep you occupied - so keep up with those and hopefully you’ll be allowed to introduce some tiny runs in the next few weeks. 😀
Keep smiling! Your VRBs’ antics will keep you amused (my 2 trail HMs next month will for starters!! 😳)
Thanks cheeky, yes I am a tad weary of the whole recovery thing now, but what's this? TWO HMs you say? Well that's just greedy! 😁 I'll watch with interest 😊
Hello again, we’ve missed you. What a long time in recovery you’ve been, and such a shame your physio is now identifying a new issue. I hope you get it sorted soon and aren’t in pain. Take care 🤗
It was all going so well, but then it wasn't🙄 I think it's just a case of trying again but more slowly and carefully and figuring out what's going wrong with that side.
Ankle injuries take a notoriously long time to heal because of the limited blood flow and the swelling sounds more or less what happened to me. I sprained my ankle years ago before running but it still gives me bother from time to time and swells if it isn’t happy, usually more so in hot weather. You broke your ankle so I’m not at all surprised that you have swelling after that length of time. Did you get treatment for it at the time? I didn’t and that is one reason why I had problems years later.
Your physio obviously knows best but have you been stretching out your calves regularly? Ankle injuries tighten calves big time and so regular massages, foam rolling and stretching help considerably.
You sound determined to run and therefore you’ll be back. I wish you luck and all the best for a good recovery.
Hi your Maj, thanks for your thoughtful reply. I've had a lot of help from the physio up until January, She was so happy with my progress at that point she wasn't expecting I'd need to see her again. I had an old sprain on the same ankle a few years ago (and I didn't get treatment at the time) which left me with a weakness on that side, and I had physio for that. So we were aware of it, and I was doing hip strengthening exercises but it looks like I'm still a bit lopsided. You'll be pleased to know I've been stretching calves, but I'll pay a bit more attention to them. Thanks again 😊
Sorry that you are on the IC grumpyoldgirl, you will have to keep doing those hip strengthening excersises then hopefully you can get back to running, however, you will have to restart C25K.I am getting on OK but my right leg is
still a little sore when I run and I have to run a little slower.
Ohh, that must be frustrating. With a physio on the case you can come back a stronger, fitter version of your pre-injury self - hard to believe just now perhaps, but hang on in there, do as you're told and you'll be back out again.
I have to admit I am much better at following orders than I am at trying to motivate myself all alone. It's fine when everything is going well, but when things go wrong, I don't know whether to stop, or reduce, or do something different, or what! I'm hoping for some better weather so I can get onto some footpaths and trails for my walking. Lovely as my neighbours are, I'll be happy when I can go further than two streets from my door 😂
Gosh you have been suffering for a long time. You poor thing! Its funny how sometimes the problem you have is nothing to do with where the pain is. I do hope you get it sorted 👍
Oh! Not at all grumpy! You are proving to be truly amazing! An example to us all. I am so very sorry that you are having more set backs. Here's to sorted a hip to help with your ankle. Here's a perseverance medal 🏅 and some flowers 🌹🌸🌺🌼🌻🌷💐 for you.
🤣 I really enjoy the way folk make me laugh on this forum. I do hope that the flowers look god in your vases, perhaps you were able to add some greenery from your garden. 😊
Best wishes for the continued recovery GOG and you'll be back at some point in better shape than you started 😁 not everyone would have picked themselves up and persevered in the way that you have and you will enjoy the running that you're working so hard to gain the opportunity to do when you get there. Keep on keeping on 👏👏👏
I understand totally, it's not always helpful to hang around here when you can't run! (Although it's a good place to get sympathy and advice from other IC occupants past and present!)
To be honest, I've felt ok until this last setback, I think first because I'd actually started running again so it was a huge disappointment. But also because Jan/Feb were just so bloomin miserable.
Everything feels better again now with spring and longer days and vaccinations, and there's a gradual improvement in my foot again, yippee!
