Jan Stats In!

Started couch to 5k at the end of June 2020 after a period of basically being too anxious to go out after the first lock down. Now running 20+ miles a week, around 5 times a week! Can’t wait to make it 6 days when my body feels ready for it!

I’ve managed both a 26min 5k and a 55min 10k since then and now start VERY gradual half marathon training since there’s no races to set as a deadline!

February goals are:

150K total distance

1250 metres elevation gain

New 5k PB time!

What are your goals for February?

Very impressive. There are plenty of us oldies on this site, so it is great that you are flying the flag for the Under 30s. They need inspiration too, especially in these times. I am sure that HM is just round the corner.

I love reading the more mature runner’s stories too they motivate me so much!

That’s really impressive a 26 min 5k and 55 min 10k 😯 those are definitely something to be proud of, those and your January stats, well done 👏🏻👏🏻🏃‍♀️

That's cool going, well done. Remember not to increase your targets until you are well comfortable at the current level.

Wowee Jade, these are amazing stats! And the fact that it all happened in January, I doff my cap 🎩 ✨👌🏼

It’s interesting you wrote down increased elevation gain as a target. I’ve never seen anyone mention that before though I understand hills are the making of a runner 🤩 Good luck for Feb!

Elevation is almost as important as mileage to me! I did 1250m in jan already so just looking to maintain rather than increase for the time being :) hills are speed work in disguise and I do my best not to shy away from them. That way hopefully one day when races / park runs open I won’t get surprised by any!

That’s a good shout. I’ve been taking on some gradual inclines and have noticed I now handle them better. But you might just inspire to try something a little more tricky.. 🏔☺️

Pick a hill / mountain you like a goal target! Ben Nevis is around 1300m so you could use something like that as a fun goal to reach over a month! Or a smaller hill if that’s too ambitious. Not sure if you have a fitness tracker to map your elevation for you, but if not you can use websites like this to plot you route and it’ll tell you the elevation :) onthegomap.com/#/create

Ooh, I like! This is a great extra target to aim for. Yes, NRC tells me January was 348m. I’m going to google a target hill later ☺️ thanks for the inspo!✨
