Goodies.....!

In an attempt to get back into running because it really helped me through last year, I finally gave in and bought myself a Garmin Forerunner 245 (non- music, because that one was 80 quid more expensive...)! It was a little bit of an impulse buy with the model but it was reduced by about 30% on Amazon so I just went for it. It arrived on Sunday and I’ve been obsessed with the new world of stats 🧮 and dying to take it out for a spin. Unfortunately with the snow and ice I’ve not dared to venture out yet as really don’t want to take out my back, but excited to hopefully soon get out there and try it! (And make it worth the dollar 💵!!) who are my fellow Garmin buddies????

I’ve not been able to stay idle - and have been using it to track my yoga sessions 🧘‍♀️ And my workout sessions (grand total of 2 so far 😂 too!! )

metamorphfreebird Santa left me a Forerunner 245 and I have barely taken it off my wrist since, well except to shower and to charge it up. Using it to monitor my runs and haven't set up any training plans yet as I'm going through the NHS 12 week consolidation plan. I like that it shows a map of the route ran on the app afterwards and you can see the colour and see how fast and slow I ran. Good luck with your running

I’m in good company then!! Which 12 week consolidation plan is this? Yeah I’m definitely slightly obsessed already 😂 happy running!!!! And training :)

Hard to choose but I love the stats when I'm running and the big numbers I can just make out without my glasses...😆. Also love connecting to music with bluetooth headphones so I don't need to carry my phone. Using this with my Aftershokz bone conducting headphones is a match made in heaven!

metamorphfreebirdGraduate10 in reply to Fionamags

Oooo that’s for a future upgrade for me, to get that music right on my run !! I do love those big numbers too and the fact that I don’t have to take out my phone and check, which was so fiddly before, anymore :))) 👍🤩 enjoy!!

Ohhhhhh garmin love 🥰

😍☺️ yessss!! You speak from experience?! It’s motivated me to up my water intake as well, a benefit I hadn’t anticipated with my impulse love buy 😂

A word of warning though metamorphfreebird it can become the case, "stathappy-itis" 😝Cadence

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh and turn that move alert off 👍

Hi

Picking up on your comment about the move alert: being inactive is not good for your health even when you take regular exercise. This applies particularly if you spend long periods sitting. The recommendation is to move around once an hour which is what the move alert's for.

When I first got my Garmin, I turned off the move alert thinking that I did enough exercise anyway but, having read about it, I now use the alert.

Admittedly, if you're not going to use it, it will just be a nuisance so, in that case, you might as well turn it off.

Ha ha! That move alert drives me crazy. It usually goes off when I've just sat down after washing the dishes and tidying the kitchen :D

metamorphfreebirdGraduate10 in reply to Newbie59

Haha, that was a good debate this has sparked!! I’ve not turned it on actually but I’m currently quite obsessed as you rightly anticipated with my regular resting stats, I haven’t done enough exercise for me to get obsessed over the others though. I do feel a bit worried about my 210 bpm heart rate atm, I’m 27 almost 28 and that looks a bit high for me and I wasn’t in a sprinting session! Happy running and tracking :) !!

Great choice getting a Garmin - I have the 45S and love mine! Good luck with your running too!🙂

Aw thanks so much for your kind words and warm wishes!!! Hope you get plenty of good value and use out of your Garmin too - may they serve us, our running and our health well 👍👍🥰

Its my second Garmin and I wear it every day - just as an ordinary watch , so definitely getting my money’s worth!🙂

I got the 45S on Black Friday. Not being techie, I'd thought and thought about it. Iannodatruffe says don't worry about stats, just enjoy the run. However I am now also totally addicted to my smart watch, take it out for runs and walks and check my step count.

It does make a difference, because if I've had a lazy day at home, I will be shocked and go out for a tea time brisk walk to boost the step count :)

metamorphfreebird profile image
metamorphfreebirdGraduate10 in reply to Newbie59

I’m with you!!! That’s lovely that it motivates you to get out just to up the count a little :) I have to admit when it was really miserable I just turned a blind eye but when it seemed like I was close to my goal I forced myself to get out for a super quick one!! :D

You'll love it. I've had a garmin 35 since October 2019 - it only comes off to charge. Happy running 🤗

I’ve only taken mine off to shower so far!! I’m weirdly intrigued by its health features for now, yet to explore its use in running (hope to go out tomorrow if work permits!!) :D happy running grannyhugs and happy Garmin-ing 🤩 🥰

I had to get rid of HR alerts though as it was turning me into a hypochondriac. 😆😆😆

I’m 💯 % with you - I might need to do that too! Constantly worried I’m going to have a heart attack ! This and my body battery stress me out , as does my stress level xD hope you have a healthy and long lasting relationship with your Garmin now and for many years to come) 🤣

I have the predecessor to yours metamorph, the Forerunner 235. I love it and I’m sure you’ll love yours too. 😍 I’ve had it for a couple of years now, and still only use a fraction of its functions!

I do use the “Finish Time” one though. As you run, it predicts your time over your choice of distance. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Congratulations on your new purchase. Enjoy! 😀

So many features I don’t know about yet! I’m soooo excited about discovering the ones that will serve me :) Mine is like the new inexperienced brother to your watch, and me too 😂 sorry my imagination went overboard, I clearly spend too much time working and the rest of my time checking out various stats 😆

I still have my 3 year old Garmin 30( resisting upgrade....) and it only comes off to shower and charge. I use it for my ( lately infrequent runs), my walks, my Pilates sessions..... i love it.

Enjoy yours .. you’ll soon be boring everyone around you with stats!!!😂😂🤣

I fear I’ve already started with this post!! Thanks so much for the kind words :) have fun with your Garmin!! It seems to be a theme with all of us only taking it off to shower and charge!

Oooo so keen to hear how that works out for you! after a disastrous run with a ridiculously high heart rate haha!!

I've got a Garmin 45s and I love it 😍 I justified my purchase to myself at the end of 1st UK lockdown by working out how much I'd saved on hairdressing appointments 🤣. It definitely made a big difference to my running once I'd got the hang of it. I found Garmin instructions were hopeless but thankfully lots of independent YouTube videos to help.

Hahaha that cracked me up out loud!! 😂 I love this logic, high five!

I used it too! “this is 4 fancy nights out eating sushi, this is way better for me., and I can totally justify it”....

My friend accused me of buying expensive things so I can use them to soothe my conscious when I buy less expensive things (‘: don’t be so harsh on yourself, this isn’t as bad as when you bought yourself a new phone’)... which is a dangerous path to take :D

I like the YouTube idea, I’ll check it out, thank you!!!

Hooray! You will love it! I got a Vivoactive 4s in May and I use it so much more than I thought I would. Love the workout prompts, drinking more water, the weird way it thinks I'm in REM sleep when I'm reading, and the freakish way my body battery only charged to 15% after a new year's drink and late night. Most recently I've also used it track my ski runs and I love how chuffed I feel when looking at a week full of exercise history. Happy Garmining!

Newbie59 profile image
Newbie59 in reply to NetCadet

That's interesting about the reading as REM sleep! I'm often awake through the night and it puts it as Light Sleep. I've stopped wearing it through the night as the body battery feature just worried me so now I can ignore it :)

I’m with you on the body battery reading Newbie59 ! I need to train myself out of it ;)

metamorphfreebird profile image
metamorphfreebirdGraduate10

Thanks so much for your replies!!! I’m loving the comments - some are so relatable already 😂 and others just what’s to come... I’m definitely overanalysing the sleep stats, the body battery freaks me out, and today I’ve taken it out for a run and apparently my heart rate was 210 for some of that and it gave me a training effect reading of 5. That was stressful! (My stress levels changed as a result too 🤷‍♀️ im stuck!! Haha)

I love that it lets me track hydration and trying to reach my step goals is motivating! I also love the map for runs :)

Happy running and Garmin-influence everyone!!!!
