I'd guess the first problem might be getting him to run at less than his max speed. Week 1 he'll probably be able to do all 8 (?) 1 minute runs flat out and be hard to tie down to a walk in between, but he'll need to be able to rein it in as the runs get longer ....... ah, reins, have you got a set?
We had his first run this dinnertime, yes he went too fast, but I kept him talking and holding his hand to judge his speed and get him to a comfortable pace. I only slipped up once, programmed the intervals into my garmin watch and missed one of the transitions so one of the run intervals was 2 minutes instead of one, no wonder he seemed a bit puffed 😂
