I haven’t been running much lately, but I’ve done a lot of walking, with short bursts of trotting, to try and keep my heart rate between 119 and 126bpm. It doesn’t take much to get it to this level, which is good, coz running in this kind of mud isn’t going to happen.

The towpath along the canal near us is similar, the lanes and tracks have either been flooded or an ice rink. Not much running going on here either. Roll on spring .
Being old and boring (never sensible though!!) for the first time ever I have taken to the roads. Not fun, but definitely safer than the trails at present, provided you keep clear of cars of course! Roll on spring !
Wow I would love to have HR that liw when walking never mind running 🤣 I do the majority of my runs on roads, their surface is usually nice and even, at the moment as per your photo, there's either hard rough frozen mud piles or deep squelchy mud all ripe for twisting knees and ankles. Happy running 🤗
Ooh that looks like something a toddler would enjoy stamping through with wellies on - don't fancy running in that much.... I hope you don't take a dog with you - that would be brutal 🐩😀
We walked down there a couple of weeks ago, it was getting nice and muddy, I can't imagine it is any better after all this rain and snow. Did you ever run the alternative route since the collapse of the river bank? There is a serious wallow there, complete with the parkrun hippo
I did. All seems a very long time ago now. My plan was to go to lots of Parkruns as a tourist last year, and try and get a t-shirt. That plan didn’t work out though 🤨
I often encounter that kind of my footing after it’s rained Baddie. I can avoid it for the most part, but it reduces the amount of trails available so sometimes I just grin and bear it! It’s fun (but not all the time) 😀
Roadrunner- I used to love that cartoon . Beep beep.
Stay safe baddie and run where you can.
I know how you feel! I love running as such but even more in a quiet and scenic environment. Sadly, it's mostly to muddy and slippery and where we live close to the sea way too busy as well. Everyone seems to be out running and walking which makes the paths suffer even more but I can't blame people for enjoying the little freedom we have at the moment. Roads for me at the moment but there will be drier and sunnier days again, spring is not too long anymore 🙂
