My daughter has today at long last said she's going to try the C25K. I've been suggesting it for a long long time so I'm very happy that she's going to give it a try. She's aiming to do a 10k before May. I 'suggested' that perhaps we can do this together 😏 I haven't run since before Christmas because of Christmas and then the snow - you know how it is 🙄 Tomorrow I'm going out and over the next week or two I'm aiming just to get back out there regularly. After that I want to do a programme that will 'ease' me in to the 10k. I don't want to feel pressured, I want to accomplish it with ease - is that even possible? So my question is fellow runners, can you suggest a good easy 'plan' to get me there. One that WILL get me there. I have already run one 10k but I want one which will treat my body with respect 😉 (so I can continue to do them) no IC for me! 🤞
I'm waiting with open arms so throw some sug... - Bridge to 10K
I'm waiting with open arms so throw some suggestions my way!
Good that your daughter is going to start C25K, as far a your ambition to rerun 10K, try Ju Ju's Magic 10 plan, it's not an app but a bit like C25K, Google Ju Ju's Magic 10 plan.
Thanks AlMorr. I did actually get almost to the end of Ju-Ju's Magic Plan. I think I succumbed to an injury but yes, I could give that another try. I do wish there was an official C210K though!
Great news on the running daughter situation 59er , so you got injured on the Ju-Ju plan, perhaps tweak the plan, ease into those increases, incorporate more rest days? Will the strength and flex program help get you to that goal injury free?
Have you tried ju ju’s magic plan? it is good I did the first mission of Zombies run this morning and can’t wait to do the next, for someone of advanced years I found it exciting 😂
Tomorrow I’m going for a walk and will speed up to a jog for the being chased bit mIf you haven’t run since Christmas doing walk then jog might work, oh and I think it could become addictive for the story
I got practically to the end of the magic plan. I think I was a week off, then got flu which knocked me back, but it was working a treat. BUT, I was taking two rest days between runs, and keeping up my Pilates too. I used Nike run club for some of the short runs, for "encouragement" to do intervals. Zombie run was bad for my heart rate, what can I say, I'm a wuss 😁
I think the two rest days in between runs appeals to me. I haven't delved into the Nike run club yet. Perhaps this is the way to go 🤔
The thing with JuJu's plan is that you can decide what kind of run you want to do, then find a run on an app that suits that run, so Nike (I love coach Bennett) or Zombies, there are lots of others that make things interesting if that's your thing. Your daughter might enjoy the zombies! It's just an app with a story that gets you to speed up or slow down in sections by telling you that you're being chased by zombies, or that you've lost them.
Great news that your daughter wants to try c25k. As you and me know its an amazing plan. As for yourself 59er why don't you try the magic plan again. Think that's the best way to get you back up to 10k. Good luck to you and your daughter 😊😊👍
I want to say "snap" as my son has just started C25k as well 😊 I used the magic plan as a base but stretched it so I was doing just 2 runs a week, giving me more rest days. Don't know if that helps.
Incidentally I increased to 3 a week at the end of November as I'm now trying to get to 10 miles and now I have a knee problem 😒 So perhaps I should have kept to 2 runs a week? 🙄
You're the second person to say you took more rest days in between runs. I think this would be better for me as at times I did feel quite exhausted. Definitely leaning towards giving the plan another try. I hope your knee problem clears very soon so you can cross that 10 mile finish line.
Think it has to be ju-ju’s magic plan doesn’t it 59er? It got me to 10k which was, frankly, a miracle! And you’ve tackled it before so you know it’s doable! Well done on agreeing to do a 10k with your daughter in May - that’ll be a great day!
The thing I really loved about Ju-Ju's Magic Plan - apart from the fact that it got me to 10k, of course! - was its flexibility, which really took the pressure off me. If I felt like running further, I did my long run for that week. If I wasn't feeling it, then I did a shorter run. And I quite often left more than one day between run days, because that suited me.
Admittedly I hate being told what to do and when, and my working week is never the same from one to the next. Given that, I wouldn't even have considered a plan that insisted I did x km on y day, which ruled out so many others.
Well done on persuading your daughter to try C25k. I reached 10k using the Nike Run Club App, I opted for the coached runs on there, choosing a further distance as and when I felt comfortable to progress to the next.one..... it worked for me and although I enjoy my playlist I like Coach Bennett chipping in from time to time to encourage me 👍
This Coach Bennett seems to be quite popular! I also like someone chipping in - just for a bit of encouragement. Does it sound 'real'? I've tried all sorts - playlists of 'oldies', podcasts - some of which were very good, classical music. I haven't tried the Nike Run Club or zombies yet though.....🤔
