🦉 “Running wise” 🦉 change is good

As I am now steadily increasing my distance post injury, I fancied trying my hand at a 5k this evening. It would be my longest recovery run since my injury after 8k in November.

I set out with that in mind. However, at about 2.5k the sight of the gritters in action salting the roads and the twinkly frost on the verges and pavements which caught in the beam of my head torch, made me think twice. Better a safer, shorter run than risking injury. 🦉 I’m becoming wiser 😉.

So fourth 4k it was, but making that change mid-run paid off. I ran nearly 3 minutes faster than my previous 4k run on Monday (which I’d found a bit of a slog 😰 and didn’t bother to post) I am more than happy with that 😊😄.

Very wise decision! You and the IC were developing a seriously intimate relationship! Much better to do two 4ks than no ks at all...

in reply toTimotea

Thank you Timotea. I was getting a bit worried I was stuck on 4k so it was a bonus to see my pace was much quicker this evening, which made up for it being a shorter than intended run. Yes, I am in no hurry to renew my acquaintance with the IC! 🤗

Sounds like a wise decision, the last thing any of us needs right now is a trip to A&E, and you reaped the benefits of your caution with a great time. Sounds like win win to me

in reply todijep

Thank you dijep. Tonight’s run was the first run I’ve properly enjoyed for ages. 😊

A wise decision and whoop whoop on the extra speed, what a good result

Very wise choice to stop where you did, great time and no nasty slides. Happy running 🤗

Thank you Grannyhugs. It’s soo cold out there now 🥶. I’ve seen enough of the IC lately!

I like that ‘running wise’ Delly-dot, makes me think about Adriene’s advice this week about dropping expectation and feeling your way with awareness, I think the yoga is finding its way into my runs, I went out today too unsure what I had to give and was mindful of feeling my way, finding what felt good, which was slow mainly and walking when my knees or calf muscles needed a wee rest. I shall add Run Wise to my little book of mantras 🤗

Wise decision I think. And a faster run? Good going DD!!@

in reply toFionamags

Thanks Fionamags. Slight chance of snow now here for tomorrow ❄️. We’ve not had any all winter so a few flakes would be nice.

I'm so glad that you're running regularly again, whatever the distance! Those longer runs will come soon I'm sure and brilliant that you're getting out there in the cold. 😊

in reply toRoxdog

Thank you 😊. You are right. At the moment managing to get out regularly is more important than the distance I do. How’s your sore hip? I hope you have found something that is helping? 🤗
