Good morning runners and a very happy hump day to you all! Even better as I have my first shift of the year tonight! ππͺπ» It's not much but better than nothing.
I've just been out for a short 5k decided to avoid distance with my knees not feeling the best and went at yet another attempt at my 5k record!
Started strong, splits all good, 2nd and 3rd km were more uphill so a little tougher, picked up pace until I reach 4k and then the problem hit! Had to cross Marton Road eight near the hospital and lockdown traffic was in absolute full effect, didn't stop but had to slow right down, weave to the middle and then weave across to the other side. Only cost me about 20 seconds but painfully that was enough! I really went for it to try to make it up but alas it was not to be π€£ still really enjoyed the run though and am scared to think how fast that last km could have been without the hold up π±
I hope everybody has a great day and a great run if your getting out there today ππ»

Good run Jericho2332, if you wish to get a PB try running where there is no traffic, such as a park or a off road path, nevertheless congratulations on your run today ππΎ
Thanks Al, I hadn't really planned the route but that one was the only road i had to cross full run π€£ if I'd have turned left instead of right at 4k I could have got onto a slightly uphill path and avoided roads all together, silly mistake lol but it gives me something to aim for next attempt πͺπ»ππ»
Woooo! Insane splits!!! Even with the traffic hold up π€£ You are going to have to find yourself a quiet spot, no roads to cross for your next 5k world record attempt. Easier said than done I know but, your next challenge? Those traffic hold ups are a runner's nightmare. yesterday, I turned to cross the road thinking it would be quiet only to see a row of 8 cars trundling down the road, so annoying π‘So pleased to hear you have first work of the year booked in ππ
Thank you, yeah the works come at the right time, my dishwashers just packed in π€£!
I could do it round the park where I set my PB but because I'm not going as early as I was previously it seems to be full of new lockdown fitness people and dog walkers as well as the regulars I always see there, so I seem to spend as much time weaving between them as I do cars π€£π€£ I have a few ideas in mind for new routes and il give them a scout out on a walk at weekend I think. I've found a good spot I could beat my one mile record already, just waiting on prime conditions π€£ the 5k il try to find route this week ππ»
My next run will be Friday and hoping for a steady paced distance run so anything over 10k and il be pleased.
Good attempt, but best not to run where there is traffic, cars & runners don't mix.. πI know someone who got knocked down by a car, luckily he survived after being in a coma for a month..
Wow that's awful! Hope he's ok now. I'm like the cars worst enemy as I'm both a runner and a cyclist π€£ I don't have a driving license and up until recently have never even considered getting one but may have to do my first ever lesson in 2021 as a licence will come in handy for work. Much prefer getting around on foot or under peddle power though π
Yeah I've taken over that role too with the electronic one being out of action π€£
It was lockdown 1 (or was it 2? Last year looks so samey) that inspired me to get started on this running journey I suppose so hopefully this lockdown gets a whole load of others into this and they stick to it ππ» can't fault anyone exercising I'd be cracking up if I couldn't get out a few times a week for a bit of fresh air and burn some calories!
The cars though...they need to have a long hard think if where there going and what there doing is essential! π€£π€£π€£ Loads of people just carrying on like we are not in a lockdown, it's worrying.
As you say, it's the cars out, blimey, back in april/may, last year, roads were so quiet, very different this time, and why their talking about more restrictions! βΉ
My most recent attempt at doing 5km two weeks ago was also delayed about 20 seconds due to having to wait for a gap in traffic... and possibly caused some knee injury which means I haven't run for 10 days.
Oh that's not good, hope it sorts itself out soon π€π»knee problems are horrible.
I think tighter restrictions are inevitable but they created this problem when they decided everybody in the country was a key worker π€£ reduce that to truly essential people and the roads would be deserted once more.
Great pace- Iβd have to be on my bike to get anywhere near that time! I find now when I run that my first thoughts are where am I going to run where I donβt have to hang around waiting to get across the road and where is it not hilly!
A runner was killed in London last night crossing Battersea Bridge. Please be careful. Can you find a route that doesnβt involve slaloming across a busy road? Great run!
Iβve taken to wearing a luminous jacket in the mornings (as advised by Coach Bennett on the NRC app) but had an extra wistful look around me today. Safe running!
Well done! Hope you get more shifts soon. I was so pleased to not have to face Martin Road once I left JCUH! Hope the traffic was due to our wonderful key workers. Maybe brave Stewarts park again .
The park is a lovely run but gets vey samey when doing it 3 or 4 times a week, I've found trying new unplanned routes keeps it interesting, i do try to stick to cycle paths but it's not always 100% possible.
Some of the Marton road crawl is related to the superstars that work in the hospital but it's unfortunately a small percentage, most of it is just people out ignoring the lockdown rules. Lockdown one it was so much quieter than this time.
Some are so selfish thinking rules donβt apply to them. We are doing covid vaccines at the practice and unfortunately a small few have been abusive to our car park Marshallβs. At least a run can release the stress! Careful runningπ
