Decided to give 80 mins a go

Good morning runners! It's a beautiful day today, what a difference with yesterday! Yesterday was also beautiful but for very different snowy reasons 🤣

The subtitle for today's run is Lonely Snowmen because I saw so many of them melting away, they looked so sad surrounded by green fields and sunny weather, crazy how quickly all yesterday's snow can disappear.

Lonely Snowmen also a great name for a band I caught myself thinking 🤣

I was scrolling through the NRC for a run this morning when I stumbled on an 80 minute run with coach B and American running legend Joan Benoit Samuelson... Wow what a woman she is! I didn't know a lot about her but totally amazing 👌🏻 give her a Google, totally inspiring lady.

Decided to keep it a steady pace, no heroics 🤣 and the Kms slipped away nicely only problem being huge puddles that had amassed just about everywhere! I ran a reverse of my last 10k and added some old favourites at the end to top off to a new PB of 13k 😁 I ran with my left knee strapped and it felt ok, didn't really give me any problems until after 10k and even then it wasn't so bad. Music wise I let Spotify play my best of 2020 and it was quite a random mix which kept me interested throughout. The guided run was interesting and kept the mind engaged and the 80 mins went pretty quickly.

I always like to ask myself if I have any left at the end of a run, could I go on? The next target would have been 10 miles I suppose and I don't think I had that left in my legs so I'm happy to have stopped when I did.

I enjoyed it! First 10 was tough but that's mostly to be expected, once I settled into my stride it was just a case of refusing to stop until I'd hit my goal 💪🏻 also just as I was approaching 10k I was on for a PB...I saw a fellow runner coming opposite direction and we were going to meet at a gate (one of those to stop bikes) I decided to stop and let him through firsts and gave him a smile and big thumbs up of encouragement 😁 felt nice to be nice 👍🏻

I hope everybody is well and enjoying there weekend and if your running enjoying that too 👍🏻

Brilliant run reaching 13k in 80min. You are well on target for your 10mile distance, slow down a little for your 1st attempt and you will certainly get there, just remember you're aiming for 16.1km. Happy 2021 running 🤗

Thanks GH, happy running to you too 😁 yeah I think that 10 mile is within reach ( who would have thought that 6 months ago?!🤣) Gonna aim for a steady build over January to see if I can reach that magic 10 mile marker.

Inspiring run Jericho- another PB at 13k - that 10mile is definitely within your reach soon. There’s not been any snow here, just rain and a bit of frost - not that I’ve seen any of it! I like running in the park at the weekend as it’s nice to see other runners-that’s my plan for next Saturday. Relax after your epic run!

Thanks Bambi! Yay! You will soon be out there again! I hope this week goes quickly for you 🤞🏻 I'm looking like no work for a while, certainly nothing in for our first week back, possibly nothing for first month 🤦🏼‍♂️ but I'm gonna use the time to run and possibly try yoga and some strength training. Weights not shifting with just running so gonna try for an extra boost 🤣

You sound like you’re going to be busy during your enforced time off with yoga and strength training. I’ve got the opposite problem with weight at the moment- dipping under 9 stone so can’t afford to lose any more.

Well done on the 13k, sounds a good run, even with the puddles 🤣 we've had no snow down here luckily! That 10 miles is getting closer i think. 🤔

Yeah will get there i think 👍🏻 building the legs up to it as last long run made my knee hurt like hell for few days, woke me up in the night it was that bad. Certainly doesn't feel as bad after today's run hopefully stays the same in bed later 🤣🤞🏻

Hope the knees ok, i had same problem, back in early weeks of c25k, did 2 runs of week 1, then had to rest for about a week, then re-started w1 again, touch wood, seems ok now, also use knee supports on both knees!

Wow.. another great run and you’re now up to 13km 💪🏼💪🏼 Really good going. Lonely snowmen and all 😂😂Think that 10 mile goal may be closer than you think!! Easy though, you’ve got January to work up to that and you don’t want to knacker your knee. But it’s so tempting now I bet.. I’ve never run with a knee support (physio says I should think about it but I’m not keen, kind of feel like it might drag me down a bit) how did you find it?

It's not that bad actually, it's one of those compression support sleeve things and don't really notice it after a while... Getting it off when it's sweaty not so much fun 🤣🤣 I figure if it helps even a little then it's worth it.

Pretty sure I saw Lonely Snowmen at The Dublin Castle once 😉

JBS is such an inspiration for all she pursued and achieved when sport in general was still so male-dominated 👌🏼 I really enjoyed athlete English Gardner’s chat on an NRC 60min session. I need to google her. She sounded young but boy, she talked a lot of sense.

Congrats on your PB! 🌟

I listened to that previously, she sounded like an amazingly confident young lady. JBS really blew my mind!

I’ll save the run as a reminder for when I’m scrolling for a casual 80min run..! 😜
