Not really too bleak up here , more frost than snow but two miles across the firth and it’s a winter wonderland ❄️😂
Here the fields are full of cattle and sheep with their breath almost freezing in mid air just adding texture to the already frozen air around them . It really is chillingly beautiful , the archetypal midwinters day, very ‘Bronte’ , ‘Jane Eyre’ish’. 😊
The ice is truly treacherous though and it can be lunchtime before there’s a thaw ( yesterday not at all ❄️🥶❄️, so my runs are falling towards the end of the day.
This afternoon I set out about 4’ish and managed a short run before the temperatures dropped again . A dark run with my new favourite thing, my chest torch , gosh what a difference it makes 👌
I feel the forum is ‘stirring’ with a new energy of fresh plans being formulated and everyone looking to ‘what next’ 🤔🤷🏼♀️
I always find inspiration or that ‘little nudge’ from others posts so today I started the distance version of Ju Ju’s Magic Plan . I think a few fellow members are setting off on this new challenge and their energy has rubbed off on me 👌🙂
I’ve done my timed version , which was the right one for me , ( I finished C25K on 4Km ) and I covered 7.5 Km in my 60 minutes .
I know I can be quite contrary sometimes, 😂 One minute I want/ need a plan or structure but then I feel a bit trapped/bored by the routine ( the routine I felt I needed In the first place 🤷🏼♀️😂) .
At the moment though I’m trying to be flexible and just go with however I feel at the time and not see my ‘changeability’ as a negative as such, but just something to go along with .
So I did my 2.5 Km n 18mins and an average pace of 7.21 . And I found it hard ? 🤷🏼♀️ My shortest run in awhile and it wasn’t exactly a ‘doddle’ 🤷🏼♀️😂
I suspect due to my longstanding issue with setting off too fast , my first km was the fastest and then the next 1.5 was steady 👌
Maybe I was complacent and thought 2.5 would be quick and easy 🤷🏼♀️.
I again ignored my watch until I thought I must be about 2km and was severely disappointed to find it was only 1.75 Km .
All that way and it was only 1.75 😟😂🤷🏼♀️
As darkness was falling fast there was nothing much to see ......except the glorious sunset on the shore 😊

Absolutely beautiful 🥰 But it must've been so cold! I always struggle when it's really cold but well done for getting out there! I've been too lazy to run in the cold lately so just walks with the dogs for me 😂 I really need to get back on the waggon, I put my half marathon training plan in hold for Christmas and the pause has now spilled over to new year's 😱
It really was a glorious sunset , the camera on my phone didn’t do it justice either but often a photograph can’t . I took a quick snap but these sights are best ‘felt’ I think 😊I’m sure you’ll get back to you’re training once the festive season is over 👌
You are making incredible progress , I think if I get to 10 K it may be my limit .
I managed that run after the thaw and just before it froze up again 🥶🥶
I’ve no desire to run on ice and snow , I’d be quite sad if things came to halt through an injury😱
I’ll be glad to get the daylight back too , I think my last few runs have been at night now and I wonder if that’s affected my enjoyment level . Little to look at and more ‘work like’ , just sort of ‘getting it done’ although I’m always pleased to have gone our .
A happy , peaceful New Year when it comes and Happy Running for 2021 😊🏃🏻♀️🎉
Good for you to start the distance plan...the thing is of course that you can take as long as you like and repeat runs or walks if you want.
I think it really does become more of doing what feels right for you, rather than OMG I should be doing this run today...
Do you think maybe that 2.5km was a bit like W6R1 on C25k? All the big build up to that long...we can chill about that now😂...run on W5, back to intervals? A lot of people found that tough. With us now it’s...gosh we’ve run for 60 minutes (well you have!)...this little thing will be a breeze?!?
Yes it was lovely to turn the corner and that sunset open up to fill my view . Glorious 😊Hope the boiler is behaving itself and you are free of any aches and pains 👌😊
You’re observations are pretty spot on I think , Wk 6 rings a bell 😂🤣
I do try to remember I’m new at this , regardless of if I’ve run for 30, 60 or 5Km .
When you achieve those goals we’ve still ,at that point, only done them once .
The consolidating elements can’t be underestimated , it’s why it’s such a good programme.
So I think following the new plan and trying to run fairly regularly will continue to build my stamina and my body will get to the stage of remembering that it can do these new distances and times . Gradually !!
So yes, it’s a balance between keeping some sort of plan to stay on track and not feeling ‘bound’ by it.
My gaps between runs were just growing a bit long I felt . Getting out regularly builds its own motivation , remember all those posts about being ‘chomping at the bit ‘ on our rest days on C25K 😂 Raring to go on our next run . ( well maybe not so much in Wk 6 😂😂)
I also thought the other day that I said at many points that all I wanted to do was be able to go out the door and take a nice run down to the shore .
That takes 15 mins there and same back , so I can do that 😊👌
Everything else is a bonus ......
A peaceful New Year to you & yours when it arrives 🥳👌and happy running days in 2021 🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️
I’ll take that sunset!! 😁 What a stunner that is, and amplified further by the water and brooding shadows.
I would suggest a little tweak: changing ‘changeable’ to ‘flexible’ and ‘adaptable, or even ‘fluid’??? A balance between the plan (great as structure; bad as rigid obsession) and spontaneous going-with-the-heart (bad when it turns to mush or lack of direction or into a plain cop out; brilliant when it accelerates motivation and sources a deeper well of commitment). Tricky balance, of course. 😉⚖️
The sunset is stunning isn’t it? Distance is a strange thing, when we run round the track in our park we know once round is about half a kilometre but when i first ran on the seafront i wanted to get to the pier and back, looking at the pier it was tiny and i thought I’d be lucky to get that far, when i got to it i was disappointed to find it was only just over two and a half k, sometimes i feel like i’ve run miles only to find i haven’t lol
Think you’re right 🙂 all running is ,after all , getting out there and running . Something I’m really happy and grateful for , a bonus in such a year.Start of day and end of day are such beautiful times , not least for the rising and setting of the sun .
That sunset , I knew was there beyond the houses, but it was quite breathtaking once I got to the shore . No photo ever truly replicates the wonder of nature I think . 😊
Distance is such an odd thing , I think because I was ‘just running’ not looking at my watch and allowing the road to go by that it must have been at least 2 km 😂😂
Still , all good , I now know where 1.75K is on that route 😂😂
A peaceful New Year to you both when it arrives 🎉😊
