My New Year Challenges

Ok, I’ll admit it. I am cheating on one virtual running challenge with another!πŸ˜±πŸ˜‰

My trusty RunLEJOG4 is this gorgeous challenge, sleek and popular, good sturdy and dependable that will stick with me all next year and beyond (probably forever). But that means I will never hold that shiny bling in my hand 🀀, as the medals are only sent out to completers within the year! πŸŽ–πŸ…πŸ₯‰πŸ₯ˆπŸ₯‡πŸ€©πŸ€©πŸ€©

But there are new temptations from the wonderful world of long-distance virtual racing. I have found a new distance challenge with a manly, soldierly chest (Conqueror’s 145km Hadrian’s Wall), not quite a long distance relationship but it will reward me with shiny bling before the summer is over, I am sure!

And I’m not to be satisfied by merely one or two challenges, so on the side I’ve signed up for a quick row (!) of 34km across the English Channel via an indoor rowing machine.

So here’s to 2021, a year where I’ll hopefully be blinded by the real sparkle of fake gold as I finish all my β€˜R’-Challenges, including RunLEJOG, Rowing the English Channel and Running Hadrian’s Wall!

Keep on keeping on! Happy running, rowing and bling-winning RunLEJOGging fun, everyone!

I am also cheating as well as LEJOG4 I am doing a year long challenge for 2021 running/walking 50km every month for a year, but will count my km’s for both. Here’s to both of us succeeding.

Oh, I’m glad I’m not the only one! We are such frivolous runners! πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Hi CBDB I’m sad to say I’m also two-timing LEJOG4 in the new year. I’m over 500 miles into that challenge so I’m also taking on Route 66 (organised by the same people) to keep myself going. That challenge is 2,278 miles but you do get 2 years to complete it. I’m hoping to run the entire distance but my spreadsheet is set up so I can log walking separately in case I need to use it. You can also cycle on that challenge but I don’t have a bike!

Route 66! Wow 🀩 🀩. That’s a long-distance relationship!! πŸ’ͺπŸ™ŒπŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Snap David_G ! See you on the start line - and you’re definitely snapping at my heels now. The fact you’re only running is amazing. πŸ‘ŠπŸ‘ŠπŸ‘Š

I'm also cheating on LEJOG 4 by starting the Route 66 challenge. I've done Route 66 in real life and am looking forward to seeing the things that we didn't have time for. At least we have 2 years to complete this.

See you in Chicago. Lou Mitchell's is a must for breakfast before leaving, everyone doing route 66 should go there before starting the journey.

I’m up for breakfast at Lou Mitchell’s. πŸ˜‹ One thing the Americans are great at is breakfast. We lived there for 13 years and a friend of ours was an avid fan of diners. Just wow! πŸ₯°

See you there on Friday morning.

Good luck for your challenge.

Ok hands up, me too! πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ

I’m currently around 530 miles into LEJOG4, but on January 1st I’m spreading my love thin and embarking on Route 66. πŸ˜… It’s a 2 year challenge (it’s 2,278 miles so just as well 😳).

I love these challenge and I’m including all my runs and dog walks. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸΎ

Best of all there’s bling at the end! 😍 πŸ…

Hope Route 66 and I get on, or it could be a very long and painful 2 years! 🀣🀣

Is it ok to count the miles from LeJog and Route 66???? I’m currently about 580 on Lejog - but really keen to get started on Route 66 too.

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to SlowMo500

I think it is. In my book: anything that keeps us running is ok!

Next question - how do I sign up?

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to SlowMo500

Route 66 is available from here endtoend.run/challenges/

And another provider is Conqueror virtual races, with a little bit more choice, from here theconqueror.events/all-cha...

I fear they are not free but reasonable. But for me, they certainly worked to motivate me, and they do have real medals.

As you read, I am doing virtual challenges now with both of the above, as I also wanted to try these new companies out.

For info:

EndtoEnd is a company based in Britain

Conqueror is a company based in New Zealand

Hope the chosing will be fun! And there are other challenges that are free of course, like the currenlty still (another few days) challenge organised by our own community over at Marathon and Races. Link healthunlocked.com/marathon...

Brill to have another virtual runner! I am sure you'll have fun!!!

Thanks so much - really agree about the motivation!

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to SlowMo500

It had better be SlowMo! I still have over 300 miles until I get to JOG and I’d hate to not be able to count them against Route 66 too. It’ll be fine! πŸ˜€

The best events are the ones you can do in tandem 🀣 I've even been known to connect a strava or garmin challenge as I reach the end of the month knowing it's in the bag🀣 happy running πŸ€—
