Mmmmhhhhmmm...., a run!

Just a quick post of my 5k run today (Magic Plan Week 5), as I again discovered something new today: a short break from running is not always a bad thing.

I hadn’t run for 7 days, because of heavy few days of work last week, which although they were also immensely rewarding, they didn’t leave any time for runs. And then there was my Saturday morning squelch-mega-walk of 11.6k ( post here healthunlocked.com/bridgeto... ) and that meant I needed the rest of Sunday just to recover! 🥵😴

🦵So I did some roller sessions yesterday and today. And just before lunchtime 🥗 today (after a final meet-up for work, yes now really final....!) I went out for my 5k run. 🏃🏻‍♀️

I thought I would struggle with my fitness, and maybe I’d have to run through a bit of pain 🦶due to a healing blister still from my squelch-mega-walk 🥾, and surely I’d feel a bit stiffer?

Huh! 🤔 Nope! 🤗 Fastest run ever on this route, and it felt like that as well. 🎉

I enjoyed this run so much, finally back to the 🐾 rhythm of footsteps and the music 🎶 , the cold air and musty, solid earthen paths underneath and windy, wintery trees above! 🌳🌬🌲🌬🌱💨🍀🌬🌿💨🍃

Boy does this rather ultra-slow and (a-tiny-bit-less) overweight woman love her running, now!!

So thank YOU, virtual running buddies!!!

Here’s to keeping on keeping on! 👍🏽🏃🏻‍♀️🐢

Well done on a fabulous run. Would love to know the secret to losing weight. I have lost an ounce despite the running and cycling 😂

Well... I wish as well, but I’ve got Hashimotos / Hypothyroidism so I shouldn’t expect fast results. But I’m hoping longer 10k runs will simply burn so many calories that the body can’t help and shed a few pounds. We’ll see.

But I’m feeling more fabulous than the last 16 years, so I’m happy!

Weight loss is all about your diet sadly. It is very hard to exercise away weight despite some success from some people. I am down 100lbs in 12 months and about 5lbs might be running. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I know, believe me. But thank you.

Are you also Hashimotos sufferer? I don’t want to clutter this forum up with Thyroid discussions as there is a dedicated forum on HU, which is very popular.

My experience is that Hashimotos just doesn’t work with calorie reduction, it mostly just runs the metabolism down, and with me it resulted in having to go to bed at 7pm for years. Currently I am managing nutrition and nutrients, vits and minerals very carefully, and this works. I feel fabulous. And I am a now a runner! 🤸🏻‍♂️🤸🏻‍♂️🤸🏻‍♂️

And running does lift ms my metabolism, more muscles burn more calories and running long durations does burn calories. So we’ll see, but I’m very slowly getting there. I have already lost some weight since running.

I think for a healthy person, you are right, but thyroid disorders make the whole thing even more complicated. You might be aware of that anyway.

So thanks for the thought.

Wonderful CBDB, what a great feeling you express 😀🤗🎄

Love a fab run!

It’s funny to think that these 5k+/-30 minute runs are our staple runs nowadays...when back at the beginning they were like an amazing holy grail...

🥰🐌🐢🏃🏻‍♀️🎄

Yes, just mentioned that to my husband today. 5k used to be the long run that would exhaust me for the rest of the day. Now it’s the staple run. Fabulous, isn’t it! 🥰🐢🐌🏃🏻‍♀️🙏

Indeed! Mr Lottie says that he can’t believe that I’m doing this...neither can I! Especially today when I got totally soaked 😫🙄💦

It’s so good to have runs like that. We all too often get caught up in pace and times.... and really it doesn’t matter as long as we are out and enjoying nature along with the fresh air🥶 it’s so good for our mental health. It’s great you had such a enjoyable run.

I’ve just finished W2 of JuJu plan and not sure what I can fit in. It’s so busy at work at the moment as I’m helping with the Covid vaccines. As a team 1000 vaccines in 3 days 🥵

Take care over this Christmas period and happy running🎄⛄️🎄⛄️🎄⛄️

Thank you 🙏! And wow: 1000 jabs! Doubly thank you!!! Hope you can find some time to do runs, and if not, running will be there waiting for you! W3 is just around the corner!

Slow is good. I watched a YouTube video on slow running yesterday. The Skinny Malinkie making it said he slowed down to 5mins/km !!!! I must have had a whole body workout laughing.

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to HeavyFoot

Yes, slow is very good and for me at the moment also the only (delightful) option! 🐌🐢🏃🏻‍♀️

If I could manage 5 min kms I would think I was a running god.

HeavyFoot profile image
HeavyFootGraduate10 in reply to B1GK9

Quite. With my size, at 5m/km I’d be a danger to traffic. Luckily, this forum keeps us grounded.

Just perfect, sometimes we need a few extra days break so we can run on fresh legs 🦵

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

🙏🙏 yes, fresh legs! Sounds kind of like ‘legs that are running audaciously energetic’! 🤣🤣🤣

That’s it!! I’m off out in a little while on legs that should be very fresh, we haven’t ran for just over 2 weeks now

Sounds like a wonderful run. The mud is a challenge everywhere at the moment but it's still worth getting out there.

Yeah, I lived thru ankle-high mud on the weekend ... and barely survived! 😉
