Today I set out for my long easy run on the city pathways. I looked at Forest_Run_Beginner's December Bingo card before heading out. Although I have some ideas for some of the runs, I was in a bit of a rush today so I thought I would just see if I saw anything that fit, realizing today's run may be a wash. I was surprised to not see many festive things on the first half of my run today. I thought the city would have had more set up in the parks by now. So as I approached my turn around point, I saw the weir was freezing and looked quite pretty so I looped through the viewing area trying to find a decent spot to stop and take a picture. I decided to get a decent photo I needed to go down and trek through the snow beside the creek but as I ran out of the viewing area, I saw this cute little display someone had put up (topright corner). Well, that seems festiveβοΈ. Perhaps I can get a check on the bingo card π€. I still trekked through the snow to the creek edge to take a picture of the weir and as I made my way back, I saw this small odd attempt at a snowman, with a large snow boulder beside it. But then I realized there was more to it. Someone had attempted to make a bit of a snowball scene. Festive? Sure! Why, not? It is very winter-yβοΈ. I carried on a little further making it back to another seating area where I noticed the stick in the centre of what is normally a flower garden (now under snow), proclaiming "May Peace Prevail on Earth". Yup, that goes with the theme of Christmas and Peace on Earth βοΈ. As I make my way down the final stretch, I am now entering back into a residential area. I see this cute little truck decoration. The whole house was very festive, but I was uncomfortable taking a picture of somebody's house without their permission so I settled on the cute little truck that drew my attention in the first placeβοΈ.
So all in all, I am very pleased with my run today. I ran for 11.5 km, mainly in HR zone 3 where I felt I could run forever and ever. I stopped quite a bit to take lots of photos and enjoyed the treasure hunt of searching for festive items. Thank you Forest_Run_Beginner for a great December activity!

What a lovely festive run it turned out to be after not looking too promising to start with π πβοΈ I love the photos especially the one of the weir. And a great 11.5 k run done. Hope you can have a relaxing weekend x π
Yes, that weir was pretty cool. My picture doesn't do it much justice but it was worth the trek through snow to get the picture. I'm working again this weekend so here's hoping it isn't too busy.
Now thatβs what I call cold, when a weir is frozen in motion. I think itβs still a bit early for decorating for Christmas but it does mean you notice those that appear early. Well done on all those ticks on your long run. If it gets us all out there, itβs got to be a good thing. βοΈβοΈβοΈπ π»βοΈ
With all the Christmas carols playing in the stores and the snow on the ground, people seemed to have started early with their decorations this year. I know a few that put their tree up in November! That is too early for me but it is starting to feel like Christmas is just around the corner now.
Great run for you SaskAlliecat and another lovely collection of photos you took for all of us to share, 11.5K in those snowy conditions for you is excellent, talking about snow, we had our first snowfall of the winter yesterday, 30 hours later the rain washed it all away, your snowy winter lasts 5 months, ours unless it's very cold lasts less than two days.
Shoot, your snow is already gone! How disappointing. I grew up on the west coast so I remember how those rains could obliterate the snow pretty quick. Oh well enjoy it when you do get it! Our snow is slowly thinning out since we've had a few sunny days above zero. There is still enough to feel festive but I am ready for a fresh snowfall any time now.
Love the frozen weir Sask. Sounds like a really interesting festive run. Areas of Scotland have experienced Thunder Snow; I had never heard of it, but maybe it happens regularly over there? Great that you can still get out and run!π
Thunder snow is a new term for me. I googled it and nope, I have never experienced that but it would be quite the experience. I enjoy a good thunderstorm in the summer, but I am not so sure how I would feel about it in the winter . It would be a little nerve wracking, I would think.
I have experienced an earthquake and a local Tornado warning plus a 24 hour power failure in Canada; think I must be a jinx. The thunder snow caused quite a stir; I would expect Canadians to shrug it off. π
You might just be the jinx π. I'm like a little kid during a thunder storm plastered to the window watching the active sky. This summer we had a lot while we were on the houseboat so we would sit on the front deck under cover or lie in bed staring out the window as it lulled you to sleep. Perhaps once you got over the shock of it, we'd likely do the same thing. I grew up near a fault line so have experienced a few earthquake tremors as a child. I remember having earthquake drills at school and have had lots of power outages, but none for 24 hours, that I recall. Actually we had 2 power outages last week a couple days apart. Fortunately both were only a few hours long and it wasn't too cold. But we got to sit around by candle light for a couple of nights enjoying each other's company which was nice.
Here the news outlets like a bit of hyperbole. You know it's happening when they start to use Celsius, they use Fahrenheit all summer. I like to think of it as Chillsius and Fahrenheat!!Lovely photos as always π
That "Thunder Snow" was around the Edinburgh, Fife area, apparently the thunder sounded a bit different and louder than the thunder you hear in the summer, I did see one flash of lightning around 5 am but as it was around 40 miles away from where I live I did not hear any thunder.
What a lovely long steady run Allie, and what festive treasures you discovered! That weir looks amazing frozen in time, and the little display is very heart warming.
The giant snowman looks like he is just emerging from the house..
Hope you had a nice warming treat when you got home, after your long run.π€πͺβπββοΈππxxx
The weir had quite a mystical feel to it partially frozen as it was. It was just the excuse I needed to really take in my surroundings and stop for some pictures. It changed the whole feel of the rest of my run (in a good way).
I wish I could have taken a picture of the whole house. They had quite the display. Some people get very into the season, which is fun for the rest of us to enjoy.
What a run to go on with you SaskAlliecat, big Xmas thank you's still a tad envious of your snow π
What a lovely festive bingo card SaskAllicat, that must tick lots of bingo card boxes! Lots of Christmas trees springing up in peoples houses here ; itβs a bit early for me yet but it is starting to feel a bit Christmassy!
Just one Bingo box today but I'm well on my way to the 25km one (I think I'll go for 25 miles instead). I've got a plan for a few of them and there may be multiple boxes in the future, but it was a little early for me to listen to Christmas music today and although I was humming a Christmas tune while grocery shopping after running, I didn't do it while running. I followed a guy running with his Santa hat on today, so maybe I could pull mine out a little earlier than planned. We'll see π And I wasn't sure if I wanted to listen to jingling Christmas bells for over an hour π. That might need to be reserved for a short runπ
What a run SaskAlliecat, absolutely brilliant. And those photos are fantastic, they are definitely all festive, well done for tricking that one off the card βπ€Άπ ππ That wier is just amazing too, I've never seen anything like it, stunning.
Thank you for sharing your run and photos with us and I'm so glad the bingo is helping with the festive feelings. βΊοΈ
I am so glad you posted the December Bingo. It has added a whole new set of fun for the month! Thank you for taking the time to create it and share it with us!
Ahhh, thank you. I enjoyed coming up with them and I'm so glad so many people are keen to give it a try. I love Christmas, it is my favourite time of the year so I'm glad I can help bring some festive fun into people's runs too π€Άπ ππ¦β
What a lovely seasonal collage, Sask! The weir is spectacular, but the little truck is so cheery. People round my way seem to be getting into Christmas earlier this year. Just gives everyone something nice to focus on after a rubbish year, I think.
