Don't look now ....

When I first ran races, I was always told "don't look over your shoulder" .....

The present day equivalent must be "don't look at your blooming watch"!

This was with 20 yards to go on this morning's 1 mile speed challenge .. how many tenths did that cost me? It's not as if I don't know where my finish line is!

A really good photo, the speed challenge is great isn’t it?

This is brilliant!!! 😍

When I do the speed challenge I look at my watch more and more as the 1 km goes by 😂

You have such a look of disbelief on your face!

That's my "oh no, still 20 yards to go" look .... (well metres really, but I was running a mile)

Yes, maybe "horror" was the word I was looking for 😃

For me it was... how much longer have I got to the end of the measured kilometre?

😂😂 how often do we look at these watches, as you say, we usually know where the end is. Happy running 🤗

I love that photo UTS, it reminds me of what we are all like...watch checkers!😁😂😂😂l you look fab in it!🏃‍♂️👌xxx

I remember at the New Forest Marathon 10k briefing, they said don’t switch your watches off until you are though the funnel. Lots of the professional photos were ruined by people looking at watches instead of delighting at their success.

Wind assisted though, if I am not mistaken.

Yup - and acknowledged on the challenge thread 😀

I managed to completely mess up my run today due to my watch - ended up doing 5k more than planned due to accidentally stopping my garmin twice while trying to complete one of its training plan workouts!

Ha ha! This was so me on Tuesday

How much b****y further can it possibly be?!!🥵

For me it is a trade off. I want to hit the stop button as soon as I reach the required distance on a Pb attempt (on longer runs now obviously; no speed challenges for me). Otherwise it clicks on to .01 every time. Great run by the way👏👏👏

On Garmin, If you look at the lap times on your phone you can take the time for the 1k even if you’ve run more. In landscape you can see the accumulated time if it’s a 5k time you are after. You can also

trim the activity to the end of km time but I tend not to unless it’s a virtual race. I purposely run a little bit further because when it downloads to Strava it sometimes comes out a bit shorter.

I got into the habit of waiting until the chequered flags appear and the watch buzzes 🙄.

Great pose (and time) UTS - with a co-starring role for the Eastney beach huts!

Last race I did was an 8k. 2 water stations on route. I asked both if there was anyone behind me..........their faces were enough!

Grrr... I know that feeling! That's where a measured / known segment helps. I have alerts for 1km and 1 mile, but I'm usually just hanging on from around the 1/2 mile point!

Thank you for this post yesterday, I heard your mantra at about 7k into my 10k run this morning. I thought “I’ll just check my HR” then remembered “don’t look now” I gave myself a talking to, “if you feel your HR is too high , slow down, no need to have a device make that decision for you” thanks UpTheStanley
