I must have been in hibernation because this photo was taken today (22 nov 2020) and is in full blossom. I’ve been monitoring this tree for nearly 20 years now and there was a time when it was just starting to blossom on new year’s day and that felt ‘early’ - but it has got earlier and earlier - this is the earliest yet that I remember.
Anyway - update on the Pennine Way ! I’m now 89 miles in - will I make the 100 mile mark this week ?!?! I’m assuming another postcard will arrive on my doorstep !! What will it be ?!?!
I’m going to bet on Pen-y-Ghent because I can see on the map that I’m not far from there, which apparently is the lowest of the Yorkshire ‘three peaks’ - so I thought I’d do a bit of hill work this next week ! Pen y Ghent is 694 metres - if I count today’s 131 metre elevation gain and throw in some flights of stairs maybe I’ll do it over the next week/3 runs if I focus on it!
As for my Jeff Galloway half marathon training plan, I’m having difficulty with my timings for the ‘run-walk-run’ method. I’m not that great at counting or guessing how many seconds have passed ! Basically, is there a way of programming the watch to prompt me at 30 and 60 second intervals ? I guess I could probably do it for a ‘free run’ (though I don’t know how) but If I’m doing a training plan run, is it even possible to programme this section of the run ? My watch face is no good to rely on and that part of the training run only shows the distance countdown.... I found an app that I can programme to tell me when every 90 seconds has passed but it’s not compatible with music and turns my music off ! I tried to find a Nike run club run that might do similar job, but couldn’t find one. Grrrr. Anyway - I’ve got my magic half mile to look forward to next week - my performance of which will apparently impact my training plan going forward ! Feels like I’m back at school !👩🏻🎓

You are doing very well with your Lejog at the Pennine Way, Spring come Autumn, amazing seeing blossom in November, New Zealand but not the UK, onwards and upwards for your Lejog Pennine Way journey.
Just checked this out and a whole new world has opened up to me !! Thank you !
I’ve only just seen this, so busy I’m really behind with everything ...your lovely tree, interesting it’s flowering earlier than normal, I think it might be a Prunus x subhirtella ‘Autumnalis’, a Winter flowering cherry, I have just ordered one for our community green, so lovely to see blossom in Winter.I’m in awe at your hill running plans, I think my 90m climb down and back to the beach is a huge climb now I think it’s a mere small slope, very good luck with that. Be great to be able to run up Pen-y-Ghent for real one day.
As you probably know I’m no help for you with that watch and setting prompts for intervals but I see you have help with that now. I’m leaning towards a piece of paper at the moment and then listening to desert island discs or Bob Harris country programme whilst I run. 🤗
