Having returned to full time work weeks ago now that itβs perfectly safe with one way arrows stuck to the office carpet π Iβd reduced my runs to twice a week, so itβs been lovely to have a week off this week and venture out 3 times π.
Chose a NRC 5 mile / 8k run today, again feeling nice and relaxed which makes a massive difference to my breathing, the anxious feeling before leaving the house that I used to get now long gone.
Off I set in the nice fresh morning air, Coach Bennett checking in with me at various intervals, encouraging me to pick up the pace slightly at various stages and be aware of my form remembering to include the motion of my arms, with open hands brushing my hips, whilst keeping my shoulders relaxed. The run itself went well and within no time I soon found myself homeward bound, weirdly I found my pace gradually increasing and with Coach soon telling me I had just 200 meters left I actually sprinted to the finish line π
Still a fair walk from home I could have resumed the workout but I remember Coach saying that you shouldnβt feel completely spent after every run, so I walked the rest of the way home.
There was a furry face waiting for me when I got home, and for some reason he fancied running up the hill today, which forms part of his walk so I ran up the hill with him before finally arriving home for a well earned rest.
Sounds like you are really enjoying this running malarkey! Thatβs really great.Itβs interesting that you mentioned you used to feel anxious before a run, I always feel nervous and really donβt understand why. Once Iβm out there Iβm ok , once home even better π€£
I know itβs daft isnβt it, but it took ages before that left me, glad it has now though. Youβll be the same, as you say you feel fine when youβre out there π€·ββοΈ maybe weβre mistaking being anxious for anticipation.
Picked uk from a previous post that headspace had running apps, so I listened to one whilst I was in bed π it said that starting off slow and getting faster is the way to enjoy the whole run.... I must try it!
Hello stranger π the Headspace Runs are good, quite thought provoking when your out there jogging along. Have you been ok? Still running and preparing for your Santa Run ?
Ooo what a difference not having to work makes, thatβs a great run for you today, We too have those arrows on our carpets and iβm sure they will keep us safe
It certainly does make a difference not having to work. Thereβs not much to do in lockdown Britain at the moment, so my three runs have been the highlight of my week ππββοΈ
Know what you mean about work!!! Really gets in the way. I struggle in the cold/damp because I have Raynaud's but I have found a NRC 17 minute intervals which I can just about cope with after work.
I must be honest I had to look that up, I can see the cold weather definitely isnβt good for you, but itβs nice to hear youβre still managing to run and that youβve found runs on the NRC that you are comfortable with. π
Maz1103 - I have Raynaud's too. Although a mild case. A few blood blisters on my hands each winter, and permanently cold hands - my feet don't seem to be affected. I was astonished on the first run close to freezing at how warm my hands got. They never get that warm in winter! I think this running malarkey may actually improve the circulation! But I did go yesterday and buy a pair of down mittens in the hope that they will allow me to keep running through the coldest days without my hands being painful.
My fingers tend to go white to the base and I have to put them in warm water to recover. It seems to be damp that's the problem. I ran this morning in the cold and they were fine , but another milder day, if its damp I have a problem. Having said that π€π€not too bad so far so hopefully like you say, circulation may be improving!!
Thank you MinnieMoo55, π no itβs not just you, I think it was the hardest thing to overcome when I started C25k. Now Iβm more relaxed I definitely think my running has improved as my breathing is so much better.
Sounds like a nice strong run for you this morning! π
Good job you didn't continue on running after the 5 miles were up - you needed to conserve your strength for running up that hill with the hound πΆ πββοΈ
Ha ha, yes he was keen to run up that hill this morning for some unknown reason, but it was nice to find I still had the energy to do that with him. I took him out for a long walk this afternoon too, so feet up now for a restful evening.
Itβll go be patient.....congratulations on your first 7.5k π₯³π₯³and what a great time too ππ»ππ». I was looking at that run this morning funny enough, one to keep in mind for the future.
Sounds fab. I struggle to get up and out early (currently an aspiration Iβve failed to achieve but I remain hopefulπ€π») so work has been disruptive to my running since graduation π with the early dark evenings. Glad youβve been able to enjoy your time off.
I feel to too tired after work, and I live on a main road so if I go out early in the morning thereβs very little traffic so the air quality is much better. Plus once Iβve completed it I start the day on a high. Itβs hard at first but you do get used to it.
I know youβre right. I just need to get my act together and actually respond to the alarm in the appropriate way instead of hitting snooze! You might be my inspiration...

Sounds like a great run and I know exactly what you mean about runs being the highlight of the week at the minute. I'm glad you've enjoyed them while you've been off work as having to fit them in before or after working hours can take some of the stress-free enjoyment out of them
Yep lockdown Britain hasnβt much to offer, so good job weβve got our running. I donβt mind early morning running, itβs what Iβve always done, Iβve tried later in the day but itβs not as good. I love how fresh it is out there first thing and it sets me up for the day, even if Iβm working, but much nicer if Iβm not ππββοΈ
Yes, I'm an early morning runner too but I've recently discovered that a Friday afternoon run is a great way to kick-start the weekend too, especially as I'm still working from home where it's sometimes hard to separate work and home life π
