Oh no what have I done ?!? Feeling bereft without my Garmin training plan I decided to sign up to another and didn’t really research everything available just looked at the default options - 5k (been there, done that !); 10k (been there, done that AND got the T-shirt !!); half marathon .... (13 miles - hmmm doesn’t sound that much more really does it) ..... quick online conversion .... wot 20k ?!?!?! 😱😱 no way !! Wot, I can do it with Jeff Galloway ?!? over 20 weeks ??! And practically walk half of the work outs ?! Sounds easy peasy. I mean, who knows where the world will be in 20 weeks ?!?!!
So - benchmark done today and my fitness age went up (up !!) by 5 years (in just 9 mins !) but since I was concerned about the prospect of re-entering my teens I’m not that bothered. So ‘cadence drills’ and ‘acceleration glider drills’ - here I come !!

Woo-hooooo! Good luck and enjoy it all. It's a brilliant distance to achieve 🥇
Well I’m not all that hung up on achieving it (yet) - it seems so wonderfully far away I think I am under an illusion that somehow Jeff will carry me over the finishing line without any effort on my part 😂
Guess what Juliet, me too, 😁...just done my first drill workout. It’s everything I’d normally not choose, not knowing what’s coming next, letting someone else tell me what to do! technology bound, charts, laps, statistics arghhhh....but it’s ‘step out of my comfort zone or grow old’ so here I am.
I’ve only just discovered the lap button on my Garmin watch, I can hardly see the phone to see what I’m supposed to do next so have to keep stopping to have a closer look, ( unless I’m missing something and there’s Jeff’s voice somewhere?!) it even looks like my mileage is going to go down rather than up which feels odd having just got up to 10k so it’s all a huge gamble.
And as you say a lot can happen in 20 weeks, by the time we’re through to the end of the plan I’m so hopeful now things with COVID will have moved on 🤸♀️🤗
Whoopeee ! I’m excited about it ! I also still get confused with my Garmin buttons - have been known to press the wrong one and lose my recorded distance ! Bit worried there are too many instructions to follow - I also can’t see the small text on the watch face ! But you get to review the run beforehand so I’ll try and memorise it! I’m not quite sure about this ‘acceleration - glider’ technique - the video of Jeff demonstrating didn’t reveal much difference between the stages in my opinion !! I’m worried there’s not much difference between my ‘shuffle’ and my ‘jog’. 😂 I’m also going to have to keep up my distances as I’m also on the Pennine Way ! So much multi-tasking !!
I'm also doing the half marathon though with Amy rather than Jeff. So far seems to be going OK but I am slightly surprised that the distances seem a bit low. Have been carrying on past the stop point more often than not (on one occasion because I totally failed to realise that I was meant to have moved on to a different section); perhaps she realised that I'm not sticking to the plan because she's given me basically the same to do this week!
Good question! I've just done a quick comparison and this week's long run is shorter than last week's - which probably reflects the fact that I didn't spot the prompts to speed up, so carried on at my easy run pace when I was meant to be running harder! I will be intrigued to see if doing it properly this week results in a harder version the following week.
Half Marathon Training 😯 I think that may be my next goal Juliet202, it sounds a bit daunting but what an achievement it would be to do that, that’s scary big boys / girls stuff......Good Luck, I’m sure you’ll do great 👍 🏃♀️
