Celebration Weekend!

Apparently it has been one whole year since I graduated from C25K.... and I am still running! I am still slower than enthusiastic snails but I am getting out there and doing it. Mostly due to the support of some amazing people and groups like this. So thank you all.

I don't seem to get any quicker and it does not seem to get any easier, I still feel like I am going to die every time. However I am coming to terms with that and accepting it, settling for the fact that, as it has not killed me yet, it must be good for me.

This weekend was also a birthday week so I 'celebrated' with a 5k not Parkrun. As, when I start a run, I never know if I will complete it, I am very proud to say this was a 'completed' run. So worthy of celebration in its own right with some delicious homemade cake (made by a friend).

The birthday got even better when some bling arrived in the post. I wanted to increase the distance I 'run' but am not confident that going further than 5k won't be the cause of my demise, so I did the 10k Vitality run by intervals of 0.5k run/0.5k walk. I have now increased the intervals to 1k run/0.5k walk and will stick at that for a while before seeing if I can run a little more. It is 'interesting' to note that the more I run the slower my overall time gets, so there is something to work on there!

Finally, to top off the weekend I bought some new running shoes. They are trail shoes and waterproof. No more wet feet for me! I might even venture on to some muddy trails now I have appropriate footwear.

I hope you all had a good weekend and continue to stay safe.

Congratulations on your 1 year Running Anniversary. Very well done too on keeping it up and continuing your running. The cake looks yummy and the gear from the Vitality 10K look great too. Congratulations for completing it. Yes when I do longer distance running I also slow down my pace. Otherwise you would run out of puff and energy too fast. Slow and steady wins the race.

Many congratulations on your graduation runniversary Shake-and-run and I remember being at Stratford on that memorable day. You have done really well.

Don’t worry about being slower as you run further; my 10k pace is around a minute slower than my 5k pace. But what I found was that as I ran further, my 5k pace became a bit quicker. That may have also been down to parkrun and the camaraderie that goes with it.

Have fun in those trails - they are definitely a bonus on those runs by the river from what I remember.

I wore my vitality T-shirt today - it’s my 2nd favourite race shirt.

Oh and happy birthday too .

Congratulations on your 1st Runniversary Shake-and-Run! I remember it well as it was the day of our Stratford meet up (and the loos were closed at the start😬!). Crikey where did that year go?! Glad to hear you’re still running - I doubt you’ll ever be as slow as me but we snails can be proud of our speed! Or lack thereof! Here’s looking forward to the next meet up!
