Feeling a little nettled (and comes with a health warning ......)

I thought I would send you a little tale to hopefully bring a ray of sunshine to your day…..

And so, without beating about the bush. Now the leaves are descending and Winter is fast approaching I am finding it increasingly difficult to find somewhere to hide in order to have a pee en route whilst out on my run. Yesterday I held on for as long as possible. And with hindsight too long. I dived into the trees knowing time was of the essence. But those beautiful young saplings were not big enough to hide my …….. embarrassment. So I plunged further a into the undergrowth keeping an eye open for off piste runners, cyclists and walkers - and indeed deer stalkers as it is deer culling time and thank goodness for the fluorescent jacket …….. In my haste, (and time being of the essence), I did not look too closely having found what I thought to be a suitable 'spot’. All was well, until I pulled up my underclothes and leggings and a fistful of stinging nettles came up too and deposited themselves in my undergarments. I seem to react quite badly to stinging nettles and so it was - almost instantaneously – indeed everything came down a lot faster than they had come up as I attempted to remove the nettles as soon as possible from my derriere and *** any runners, walkers, cyclist or hunters who might be in the vicinity …… After I had calmed myself, and stopping giggling, I continued on my way. I am afraid the results of this lack of judgement and attention on my part stayed with me for the rest of my run……… they don’t mention THAT happening on Running websites. Hence I felt duty bound to post . The deer culling also brought to mind the Tom Lehrer Hunting Song, one of many witty songs, which you may or may not know? We used to love them as children –and have a record somewhere in the roof …… Link attached. youtube.com/watch?v=MQyoSLO... Happy running SPx

Haha sorry I couldn’t help chuckling when I read this. It sounds like the sort of thing that would happens to me. I’m quite lucky in that I can run for hours ( literally !!- I ran my HM in 3 hrs 22 mins and didn’t need a wee once). I have on a couple of occasions only just made it home, with a gippy tummy, but the only time I ever had to hedge hop for a toilet break was about 25 years ago, I was doing my 3rd Fun Run (21k) Bideford to Barnstaple and I’d had a pretty good time the year before and someone said Bananas are good for stamina. Well let’s just say I ate too many in preparation for the run and had several toilet breaks on the way, in several bushes, and was last one home 😳🥺😫. I learnt THAT lesson. Very careful what I eat pre run now 🤣🤣

Aww thanks limberlou and for sharing your experiences 😆😂🤣- I will remember to keep banana intake in check should I attempt a longer run! Congrats on your HMs - I dream on that one day I may get there - still slowly working on reducing my weight gain as I am definitely slower carrying more on board than when I was at my lowest weight! Happy running SPx

Oh I don’t think I’ll do anymore HMs, the one last summer was good but I’ve had a nasty virus since then which seems to have c***ed up my chest so I can’t see me going much further than 10k nowadays. And only about 5 lately ....

Love it SP - you’re so right, winter comes with all sorts of hazards to the bladder! Tom Lehrer’s songs were genius weren’t they!

Thanks muchly Oldgirlruns - I agree on the hazards front! A friend told me that it reminded her of an interview she saw many years ago, with Alison Moyet. She was born in France and was relaying an incident as a child who also got caught short whilst in the countryside. She crouched down and something jolted her forwards. It turned out to be an electric fence. I think that would be worse! Oh yes agreed Tom Lehrer was sooooo talented. Poisoning Pigeons in the Park is another favourite in this household ! SPx

Thank you WillowandSola - strange really, but I am fair skinned and a friend of mine is the same and also gets quite a reaction to nettles. I would like to say it made me run a bit faster but it didn't! And rather nettles than the stingy insects that seemingly lay in wait in the vegetation as I brush past during the Summer lol. A price I do not mind paying for the stunning scenery I appreciate I am soooooo fortunate to enjoy on my runs. All the best and Happy Running. SPx

Insects are fine if you can breathe through your nose

Happy running

Thoroughly amused - but also sympathetic I too often need a pee-break. Thank you for the link - I have just spent a happy quarter hour watching loads of his songs - brilliant!

🤣😂🤣 Ouch! Sorry it must have been a bit of a shock, well done for carrying on I can't imagine the rest of your run was very comfortable.

Reminded me of a time I got caught short while walking on holiday and was squatting down below a wall when a car stopped and the driver asked directions! 😯 I always presumed they didn't realise what I was up to as only my head and shoulders were visible. 🤞🤞🙄

Yes, it was! But watching where I was placing my feet as I ran helped to take my mind off it a bit! Your tale though is hilarious dijep! 😆😂 And that reminds me of a holiday in France when I was in my twenties. We had pulled over in the old jalopy and us four girls scattered in various directions ... Just as we had chosen our trees and were starting preparations there was a peal of laughter high above - some lumberjacks had been quietly watching our antics. Like startled deer we all simultaneously legged it back to the car........ and stopped again further down the road ....... perhaps that is why I tend to look up when I choose my spot rather than concentrating on what is on the ground!!! I still have a picture of you behind that wall in my head. 😂 Thank you for sharing. SPx
