Sometimes things are just meant to happen

Went out rather late this morning to run. Stayed up late...didn't sleep well (too much curry for dinner?)...so only had half an energy tank. But was determined to run anyway, as it'll be Wednesday before I have time again.

I usually go down to the river trail access point closest to my house, but the car park was full. Grumbling as I went, I drove to the next access point and decided I would challenge myself with the uphill from there instead of the flat run in the other direction - so maybe not the planned 9k (next long run per Juju) after all. Warmed up in the car park (what a sight that must be) and then set off on my warm up walk.

O. M. G. Walking towards me was the CEO of a consulting company...she and I had been talking a year ago about the possibility of my becoming her "UK branch" when I get there next year (coming home after 30+ years in the US), but the communications stopped during lockdown and my last email had gone unanswered. I had only had one meeting with her, so it was a tenuous connection anyway.

I got her attention...she was delighted to see me...my email never got to her...they are incredibly busy now...and we are having lunch next week, to discuss future plans and how we might make working together work. Even better, she has agreed to write a chapter for a book I am editing!! We talked for 30 minutes, and I could feel the temperature rising by the minute. Was very grateful I had set off in a tank top and shorts, but was still baked relatively quickly.

Had taken my headphones out to talk to her and they lost the connection to the phone. And I couldn't get them reconnected, so I ran naked. What the heck were all those hordes of cyclists doing whizzing by too close? And the walkers in packs spread across the whole trail. It was crazy out there this morning...busier than a summer Sunday! Mind you, it's about 27C this afternoon...in November in Philadelphia. Weird. Hot enough to make my heart work harder. Ran 3k uphill - 94M elevation total, so gentle grade, but uphill nonetheless. Turned around and ran back. And decided I was not going to carry on and run a flat 3k. The morning was almost gone and I needed a shower, lunch, and to settle down to some work...

Can't have the all the runs go to plan. But I got a PB on one section of the uphill run, and maybe some work next year, so I guess I can call it a good one!

Nice one! Good one all around! (27C!? Is that normal for this time of year? I know the media was pretty busy covering the election and I had wondered about seeing so many people in TShirts)

No! Not even remotely normal! I had been running in a long sleeved shirt and long sleeved tights, and shivering until I warmed up! Very weird for it to be this hot. But nice, given the joy of this weekend!

Yes, we were celebrating in our friend’s circle as well. We can only hope sanity returns on this side of the Atlantic as well. 🙂

Well, I won't get too political on here, but let's just say that Boris hitched his wagon to Trump as they are two peas in a pod, and I will be thrilled when sanity is returned to UK politics as well. I am moving home next year - talk about frying pan into fire!
