Went out this morning for a 4K run, with a bit more of a spring in my step. Think it may have had something to do with the news from across the pond!
Due to do my first 10K on Tuesday and am having a dilemma. I'm tempted to run downhill to the river and then run alongside it, which will make it an almost completely downhill or flat run, which I never do, but it will make the 10k easier.
Somehow that feels like cheating, because all of my other runs have involved hills, so I feel like the 10k won't be as worthwhile.
I'm too competitive for my own good...

Every run definitely counts no matter the incline - go for it. Your competitive spirit will however have to accept that your 1st 10k will be a great time which you will then have to work hard up when you do the run back up the hill in future 😉 happy running 🤗
10k is a milestone distance so do it how you wish. In time you'll do loads so it won't matter. Enjoy it! You'll be fine and you are ready so believe on yourself. Go steady away, especially downhill and settle in. You'll be awesome!
That said, Grannyhugs makes a very good point. I know I got hung up on my apparent failure to improve on my first 10k pace, until it dawned on me that I was comparing to longer runs where elevation gain was greater! I am such a twerp.
