Such an unexpected surprise ! I’m actually 45 miles into the route and just crossed the Rochdale canal not far from Hebden Bridge so I thought I’d stay there for the weekend ! In my virtual world the pubs are all still open 🍻 and I’m sure the cheese shop is open as cheese 🧀 is definitely on my list of ‘essentials’ ! Last time I was in Hebden Bridge for real was just couple of years ago (before more recent horrible floods). Lovely place.
And this post card of Stoodley Pike is very apt. I sent it to my dad who is now searching for a photo of the real me (not the virtual me) at Stoodley Pike a few years ago.
I lost my previous draft post which I wrote about the slightly sentimental reasons that I decided to run the virtual Pennine way - I’m originally from those parts - actually currently at the closest part of the route to my home - from today, the onward route takes me further from home, but apparently the least attractive part is now behind me. 😀 so it gave me something fun to share with my dad who then inspired by this idea has decided to cycle from Lands End to John o groats on his exercise bike - which he did for real about 60+ years ago! He’s even planning his own route using some map software - deciding the distance he has to cycle each day based on where he can spend the night ! He’s reached Exeter already.
Anyway - there you go. We’re all on our virtual holidays - typical. I get close to his place thinking he could pop over to Hebden Bridge for a pint and he’s down in Exeter !! 😂
