...only by 4 seconds, but hey.
After my plans for the week gang somewhat agley, as Robbie Burns would have it, I set out this morning with no particular aim beyond actually getting out and moving. My good intentions of running every other day during my week off were thwarted by a torrential downpour on Wednesday morning, and the revised plans by having to work yesterday, so all I wanted today was to get out and get some distance in.
Sadly the canine obstacle course was out in force today, I actually got so annoyed at one stage as I passed one particular group that I shouted "don't worry, I'll go round you" as I ploughed through the wet grass which was my only diversionary route. The slack jawed expressions as I passed said it all...
The other challenge today was the worm drowning brigade, complete with trailers seemingly the size of small caravans, which they seem to deposit in such a way as to leave about 6" of footpath for everyone else to traverse... lads, you're in a country park in Leicestershire, why do you dress like you're on an Icelandic trawler...?
Anyway... I just kept pressing on, when I got to 7.5k I thought I may as well press on to 10 now and see how it goes, the glutes and calves were (as usual) starting to get a bit achy but hey, press on.
Ms Strava announced that I'd done 10k, but the inner bloke made me press on for another 50m until I'd passed the woman running the other way... yeah, I know, the male ego...
So, 1:04:36 for the 10k, according to Strava it's a PR, by 4 seconds... it's not much but it's a step in the right direction. At that rate of improvement I'll be doing sub 60 minute 10k by about 2024...!
