8K FATIGUE.....

My day didn't start well. I was going to have breakfast before I ran today but was reminded that I had an appointment this morning which didn't leave enough time. I had to make do with a banana and some nuts. It was my 8km today. I found half way through my legs felt heavy. Dont know why πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I'm very pleased that I completed the 8k but this afternoon I have felt very tired and don't really know where to begin to analyse why. Haha, I guess I'll sleep on it 😴

It’s a long way, you have done amazingly well and that’s an awesome time, πŸ˜€

Me too but only because 9 hours of work has worn me out, if we get up early enough tomorrow will try and fit in a 5k as not going in til noon

To get a 8K sub 60 minutes is very good, just one of those runs today that made you tired, next time you run it will probably be sub 55 minutes and you won't be so tired.

Thank you AlMorr - is it natural then to feel very tired? I really have no idea - thought it might be my age!

Hey, don't worry as it could be a mental thing. You can do 5m with no sustenance really but maybe your lack of usual routine threw you off. I really like the time though, it's what I run usually. 5m done in a really good time and you weren't feeling it. I can only see positives πŸ˜ƒ

Hi GTFC, I am sorry I can't do that long run I told you about yesterday, I got a call from the gas people that they are coming to do a gas maintenance visit on Wednesday sometime between 8am and 4pm, I will be going nowhere, I will try that run a week tomorrow.

Well, my legs were feeling pretty heavy. Perhaps I have room for manoeuvre by slowing my pace a little?

Fitting in that 8k around everything else takes dedication! Interesting about the tiredness but not surprising. I'm not sure yet about running a few hours after food or whether running on empty is best, especially for long runs.

I feel that on a 'longer' run it might be I need some sustenance beforehand. Nothing too heavy but maybe yoghurt with banana or perhaps a slice of toast with banana. This means I'll either need to get up earlier to allow for digestion or go out a little later. The former might work best atm as I won't be able to run until it's light. It's worth a try I think.

I'm thinking he same, particularly as I get up early.

That's fantastic 59er. Heavy legs - sometimes that just happens. When I need some sustenance but no time to eat I sneak a big spoonful of crunchy peanut butter before a run. Seems to do wonders!

Thanks 58soon - that's a very useful tip! I might give that a try πŸ™‚

You’ve done brilliant 59er, no need to analyse a bit of tiredness or heavy legs, they come with the territory, as Al has said a great time you ran , took me more than 20 mins to do the same distance, take it as it comes and keep running πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ€—

Thank you! I probably do over analyse and really should stop. I do doubt my fitness though at times. But as you say, all this comes with the territory! πŸ˜‰

Well, for 8k I reckon your pace is pretty d... speedy, so not surprised your legs are a little heavy, especially on just a banana. You will find what works for you. As people are saying, some runs just seem harder than others for no apparent reason. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Thanks for that apatsyf - it never ceases to surprise me when someone says it was a good time 'cos I always feel like I'm running slowly! That means too that I can afford to slow it down a bit. My aim though, is to eat beforehand next time and hopefully it will feel better. πŸ™‚
